ROUND TWELVE ADELAIDE'S RACE OF A THOUSAND YEARS - December 31, 2000

CLASSIC RACERS, TRANS-AM AND NEW GRANDSTANDS BOOST LE MANS

Le Mans Adelaide race fans will be able to enjoy the action of an exciting support program in December from two new grandstands which will be built for the three-day event.

Strong ticket sales have resulted in the return of two popular viewing spots from the Australian Grand Prix.

With the circuit extending to the full GP track through to Rundle Road, tickets for the popular Rundle Street/Stag Corner and Malthouse Corner grandstands were today launched by event ticket agency, BASS.

"We have been very pleased with ticket sales for this event and there has been a lot of enquiries at BASS for the Stag and Malthouse grandstands," Le Mans Adelaide, Managing Director, Mr Dean Rainsford said.

"There are obviously a lot of race fans who enjoyed watching Formula One from those spots on the track and are they are keen to return to their favourite spot.

"The way the Le Mans Series Championship is shaping up, these could be the best seats in the house to see the 2000 title decided."

Part one of the Le Mans Adelaide support program was also announced with the super fast American style V8 Trans-Am cars doing battle on the streets of Adelaide.

Race fans will also get a taste of famous international sportscar races from the 60s with the debut of the Sebring Cup Adelaide's Race of Yesteryear, joining the Race of a Thousand Years program.

The Trans-Am class features V8 powered light weight tube-framed racecars. Le Mans Adelaide organisers are negotiating with top international teams to compete in Adelaide against local Australian sports sedan racers.

The Sebring Cup - Adelaide's Race of Yesteryear, features a wide selection of classic sportscars including Austin Healy, Lotus Elan and the famous Jaguar D-type.

Many of the actual cars competing in Adelaide have previously contested the Le Mans 24 Hour in France.

"The Trans-Am and Sebring Cup are just two classes of an exciting support program we will be revealing in the months ahead," Rainsford said.

"The action on the track will be a bonus for the magnificent New Year's Eve celebrations we have in store for Adelaide."
