The 16 Car Diary - Sebring two-hour report

Andy Wallace and the Dyson Racing No. 16 Thetford/Norcold Porsche RS Spyder turned in a near flawless performance during the crisp, cool opening two hours of the 55th Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.

After pipping David Brabham's Acura on the start, Wallace settled into the steady grind that characterizes this harshest of international endurance races. After hitting the marks for 42 seconds of fuel at 11:04, Wallace completed his second stint in good time, turning the No. 16 over to Butch Leitzinger. The driver swap, refueling and 4-tire change took the Dyson crew just 57 seconds - Leitzinger returning in second place behind the No. 7 Penske Spyder with Romain Dumas now at the wheel.

After the engineering/crew chief debriefing, Wallace had this to say about his opening stint, which was marked by some grip problems early on: "Obviously the green track [due to monsoon rains Friday afternoon] was some of that. but it was like a switch. I just suddenly started getting a lot more oversteer. The track is very slippery. It's got a lot of dust on it from some of the cars going off the road.

"But I think also, we had problem with the G-sensor, and I think that caused a little bit of a problem with the traction control. And that's why the oversteer was worse than normally it would be. But we've fixed it now, so it should be running OK now. The car - electrically and mechanically - is running absolutely perfectly now."
