Alex Job Racing escapes incidents that plague GT field in ALMS qualifying; British PK Sport Porsche is third on the grid with best ALMS performance y.et

TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE., Canada -- August 2 -- The tight, yet technical Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres course, a 1.521-mile, 11-turn circuit northeast of Montreal, created as many off-road excursions and breakdowns as it had GT entries during Saturday's practice and qualifying sessions for Sunday's three-hour American Le Mans Series race.

Sascha Maassen, from Raeren, Germany, made it four poles in a row for the Alex Job Racing McKenna Porsche 911 GT3 RS race cars by edging teammates Timo Bernhard/Jorg Bergmeister in their Alex Job Porsche by less than a two-tenths of a second. Maassen's c o-driver, Lucas Luhr, lost a chance to compete for the pole last week at Infineon Raceway as the qualifying session was cut short by accidents.

Third place went to the British-based #60 PK Sport Porsche 911 GT3 RS of Robin Liddell, who, along with co-drive Alex Davison, was running in the top six last week in Northern California when Davison ran off the course and could not continue. With bad luc k so far in their U.S. events at Sebring, Atlanta, and Infineon Raceway, Liddell/Davison hope to contend for the podium in their first-ever season in North America.

Other Porsche teams that had problems during the day, between the two practice sessions and qualifying, including the #43 Orbit Racing Porsche of Peter Baron/Mark Lieb, which was running third in qualifying with only eight minutes to go in the session when Lieb clipped the wall, breaking the right front suspension. Liddell surpassed Lieb's time, but the Orbit car held onto the fourth spot on the grid. The #79 J3 Porsche 911 GT3 RS of David Murry/Justin Jackson, which broke an upright after hitting the wal l (ninth on the grip) and #68 The Racer's Group Porsche of Chris Gleason/Mark Bunting broke an axle (14th on the grid) were victims of the tight, walled course.

The Ferraris of Lazarro/Kelleners and Gregoire/Pescatori/Salazar qualified fifth and sixth, with #66 The Racer's Group Porsche of Kevin Buckler/Cort Wagner sevent and the #89 Inline Cunningham Porsche of Oswaldo Negri/Scott Bader eighth.

Porsche teams will be trying to earn the marque's 14th straight ALMS class win, a record which would eclipse the current 13-race winning streak set by Porsche teams 1999-2001. Porsche now has 32 ALMS class wins, five more than the closest manufacturer, Au di, which has 27.

The Trois-Rivieres event will be broadcast live on The Speed Channel starting with a pre-race show at 2:30 PM EDT Sunday, August 3. Speed will then broadcast the entire three-hour event live starting at 2:45 PM, followed by post-race coverage ending at 6: 00 PM.

The entire event, will also be broadcast live online on the American Le Mans Radio Web, which can be accessed on the Web at www.americanlemans.com. Live timing and scoring for the race are also available at www.americanlemans.com on Sunday.
