Aston Martin Racing Dominates GT1 Qualifying at Salt Lake

Aston Martin Racing will start Saturday's American Le Mans Series race at Miller Motorsports Park from first and second positions in the GT1 class after an excellent performance during today's qualifying session.

Tomas Enge, who set the fastest lap in the number 007 DBR9, qualified in a time of 2:34.953s. Stephane Sarrazin secured second place for the British team in the number 009 DBR9 with a time of 2:35.330s.

Both drivers set their blistering times on a single flying lap near the start of the 20-minute qualifying session.

Enge and team-mate Darren Turner have captured three of the five GT1 pole positions this year in their 007 Aston Martin DBR9.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal, Aston Martin Racing:

"We are very, very pleased to be P1 and P2 in the class, really good effort from the guys and excellent performance from the Pirelli tyres.

"I am a bit confused that the opposition's engineering team managed to loose eight tenths of a second between the last practice session and qualifying but I am really happy with our performance."

Peter Tyson, Vice President Communications, Pirelli Tyres:

"We are very happy to get our third pole position in a row with Aston Martin Racing and we are looking forward to a good race tomorrow."

CAR 007: 1st GT1 (10th overall) 2:34.953s

Tomas Enge (Czech Republic):

"The track has more grip today than yesterday as there is more rubber down. We have worked with Pirelli to choose good tyres for this track and the balance in the car is excellent. At this moment we are pretty happy with the way it is going.

"When I first came here I said to the team I need a co-driver as the circuit is so difficult. It took five laps to know exactly where the lines are and where you should brake but now I am used to it.

"It is a shame we didn't have much of a fight in qualifying with the yellow cars. They seem like they were going slower than they did in practice. I think it could have been much closer. For sure, during the race I am expecting a very close battle."

CAR 009: 2nd GT1 (11th overall) 2:35.330s

Stephane Sarrazin (France):

"We have a very good car and I did a good lap, there were no problems. The team are happy and we are first and second so I don't mind too much as anything can happen during the race and we have been fast so far. We will see what happens in the race,"

The Grand Prix of Utah starts at 6pm MDT on July 15 and CBS will broadcast the race from 2pm to 4pm EDT on July 16. The www.americanlemans.com website will feature live coverage from American Le Mans Radio and will also feature live timing and scoring.
