The American Le Mans Series is in a schedule break, but will conclude its 12-race 2000 season with the running of the "Race of a Thousand Years" in Adelaide, Australia, on Dec. 31. The six-hour race will be run on the famed Adelaide street circuit that formerly hosted Formula One events.

The race will determine ALMS driver, team and manufacturer championships, and all will be honored at an awards banquet in Adelaide on Jan. 1.

The Adelaide race will be televised by NBC Sports on a same-day, tape-delay basis from 2-4 p.m. (U.S. Eastern time), and will be seen live on Eurosport. The ALMS Radio Web will have live coverage online at www.americanlemans.com.

Fans of the American Le Mans Series and sports car racing have a chance to vote for the Sports Car Driver of the Millenium, and the Sports Car of the Millenium. The poll is being conducted on the ALMS website at www.americanlemans.com.

The voting process began at the recent Las Vegas race, and a large response has been generated. The winners will be announced at the Australia race.

A feature of the online poll on the ALMS website will be soundbites with ALMS drivers, owners and team managers talking about their choices in the two categories. As residents of the United States have seen in recent days, every vote is important.

The ALMS Radio Web will have three broadcasts from Adelaide, including the broadcast of the race from 3:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. (Adelaide time) on Dec. 31. There will also be a two-hour broadcast of night practice from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, and a two-hour broadcast of qualifying from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Fans who would like to get a look at some of the races from the recently-completed 2000 season of the Women's Global GT Series can catch telecasts of the races each Sunday afternoon on the Speedvision network.

Speedvision will show September's race from Texas Motor Speedway at 12:30 p.m. (U.S. Eastern time) on Sunday, Nov. 12. The race from Road Atlanta that was run in conjunction with the Petit Le Mans in September will be televised on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 12:30 p.m.

The season finale that was run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last month will be shown on Speedvision at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26.

The American Le Mans Series was well-represented at the recent SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the largest automotive aftermarket show in the United States. GT driver Boris Said made an appearance to sign autographs at a Yokohama Tire display, along with one of the PTG BMW M3 race cars that competes in the series.

One of the GTS Chevrolet Corvettes that competes in the series was part of a General Motors display, and also in the show were a Panoz LMP-1 Prototype and a Saleen S7R GTS car. The 001 chassis street version of the Saleen was part of the Pirelli Tire display.

QUICK NOTES: WGGTS champion Sonja Bayer has a new English/German website at www.sonja-bayer.de .... The win by Dick Barbour Racing in the GT class at Las Vegas broke a tie between Barbour and Alex Job Racing for the most GT entrant wins in ALMS competition since the start of the series in 1999.
