Birmingham, AL (April 21, 2007) -- Michael Jordan Motorsports-Suzuki rider Aaron Yates, put his 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 on pole position for the AMA Superstock motorcycle road race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. Birmingham is the 2nd of 11 stops in the 2007 AMA Superbike Championship.
This is Aaron Yates first year racing for the Jordan Suzuki team which was formed in 2004 by legendary NBA star Michael Jordan as a result of his passion for motorcycle racing. This is also the first pole position for the young privateer Jordan Suzuki race team. The former 2005 AMA Superstock Champion earned the position with a lap time of 1:25.619 on the 2.3 mile Barber road course, lapping (time) better than factory Yamaha racer Ben Bostrom, followed by factory Suzuki racer Ben Spies, Geoff May, and fellow Jordan Suzuki team mate Jake Holden.
In a post qualifying interview the pole sitter thanked his Jordan Suzuki crew for their hard work stating "they made some changes to the bike which made it come around...giving me the feel I have been looking for."
When asked about the highly visible team owner's absence from the track, Aaron stated he "wished that Michael could have been here with the team today." Michael who is attending the Jordan All-American Basketball Classic Benefiting the Children's Aid Society at Madison Square Garden was unable to attend the second round of AMA racing action, but plans to attend round 3 of the AMA Superbike Championship at California Speedway in Fontana California, on April 27-29.
