DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (March 8, 2003) -- Ricky Carmichael continued to make his mark at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday when he won his fourth straight Daytona Supercross By Honda.

Carmichael, a native of Havana, Fla., and riding a Honda, tied Jeff Stanton's mark of four in a row between 1989-92 with his 14.501-second victory. Stanton, who serves as a consultant and riding coach for Honda, was present to see Carmichael tie his record.

"It's awesome to do that," Carmichael said. "A guy that's as nice as Jeff, we get along great and he helps me out a lot. Without his help and support and also for the team, none of this would be possible. It takes a lot of people that go into the ingredient of winning, especially this race. It's really tough. It feels good to tie Jeff."

Said Stanton: "I'm super-happy for him. He's a great guy. We get along good. I'm proud to have four victories here. I earned them. I busted my ass to get them. Next year, he'll get five. I don't see anybody beating him next year as long as he stays healthy. I've got no complaints."

Carmichael took the lead on the start with an inside pass coming out of Turn 1. He led every lap of the 20-lap event and lapped every rider with the exception of second-place finisher Chad Reed, aboard a Yamaha, and third-place finisher Tim Ferry, also riding a Yamaha.

"I just concentrated on the starts," Carmichael said. "I think if you get the hole shot out there, 50 percent of the work is done. That was my main goal the whole weekend, was to get off the gate. I did."

Rounding out the top five were Honda's Travis Preston and Ezra Lusk on a Kawasaki.

Carmichael, who earned his seventh Supercross victory of the season, gave Honda its 15th win in the Daytona Supercross By Honda.

Winning the 125 East Supercross event was Michael Brown aboard a Kawasaki. The Johnson City, Tenn., outlasted Branden Jesseman and Shae Bentley for a 6.368-second victory, his first triumph at Daytona and his first of the season.

Tickets for any of the remaining motorcycle events at Daytona International Speedway are available by calling the Speedway ticket office at (386) 253-7223.
