For the first half of the race it was the Damon Buckmaster and Jamie Hacking show. Aaron Gobert, Tommy Hayden and Jason DiSalvo battled for the last step of the podium. However, the race came to a halt after an accident in lap 9.
The accident was significant enough, not only for the race to be red flagged, but for the local medic helicopter to attend to the scene. The crash happened on the exit of the carousel and delayed the race for 25 minutes. Luckily however, the injured rider was not too badly hurt.
Red flags mean a restart of the race. So the visible lead Damon and Jamie had over the rest of the field was wiped away. After a quick warm up lap the race was on.
Damon and Jamie took the lead, followed by Tommy, Aaron and Jason. Damon, with new rubber underneath him began to open up a gap between himself and Jamie. In lap 10, going into the carousel, Aaron put a pass on Tommy for third place.
Jamie's board must have given him the go-ahead signal because Jamie went fishing for Damon and began to reel him in. By lap 13, Jamie had had enough and made a magnificent braking move going into the turn 9 chicane. In two laps, Jamie opened up a gap big enough to Damon. Damon's problems didn't stop there, Aaron, Tommy and Jason were closing up fast, but not fast enough and the Australian kept his second spot on the podium.
With Aaron taking third, it was a Yamaha sweep. <pre> Pos. Rider 1. Jamie Hacking Yamaha 2. Damon Buckmaster Yamaha 3. Aaron Gobert Yamaha 4. Tommy Hayden Kawasaki 5. Jason DiSalvo Yamaha 6.
