Carmichael Fastest in Saturday Practice in Mt. Morris for Round Two of AMA Toyota Motocross Championship

MT. MORRIS, Pa. (May 26, 2007) -- Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael set the fastest lap time in Saturday practice at the Kawasaki/Monster Energy High Point National, presented by Centra Bank, round two of the 12-race AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, presented by FMF. Kawasaki's Ben Townley was the quickest in AMA Motocross Lites.

Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., followed up last week's opening round win by establishing the best lap time of the day with a 1:58.xxx. Carmichael's time was nearly two seconds quicker than Kawasaki's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., although Stewart's second practice was cut short due to a crash. Stewart is reportedly in good condition, setting up another chapter in the Carmichael/Stewart rivalry.

Yamaha's Grant Langston, of Clermont, Fla., was third fastest with a 2:03.410.

Like Carmichael in the AMA Motocross class, Townley validated his opening round win in Sacramento with a fast-lap time of 2:03.953, just over a second faster than the 2:05.103 of Kawasaki teammate Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash. Honda's Josh Grant, of Riverside, Calif., was third with a 2:05.256.

The top 40 riders in each division qualify into tomorrow's two-moto main event. Opening ceremonies start at 12:00 p.m. for tomorrow's Kawasaki/Monster Energy High Point National, presented by Centra Bank, round two of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, presented by FMF. Racing starts at 1 p.m.
