Delancey dominates Path Valley AMA races.

Spring Run, PA_ Dane Delancey of Port Royal on four wheels and Raun Wood of Dublin on two wheels were the big winners Saturday evening in AMA motorcycle and quad racing at t he Path Valley Speedway Park. Each won two top feature events.

Austin Greenland of Spring Mills was the only other two-event winner as the youngster won in 100cc and then led every lap just ahead of Brett Pugh of Conowingo MD in the 85cc feature for 7 to 11 year olds.

Dane Delancey is a veteran of the steeply banked Path Valley clay oval because he races in regular Saturday events and he had impressive runs in both the four-wheel 2-stroke and the four-wheel sportsman features against the biggest fields of riders. In the feature for 4-stroke four wheelers Dan Mowers of Chambersburg won the pole in heat races and then led start to finish on his #17x Honda.

Veteran teen rider Raun Wood of Dublin beat out Grand National Champion Richard Rick Winsett of Elizabethtown in the 600A feature and then came back in the Sportsman feature to again beat Winsett by about a bike length on his #88A Rotax.

"The track was as smooth and fast as I've ever seen it," said John Winsett Sr. of Two Wheel Promotions. Winsett serves as senior race director for most racing events at Path Valley and also races in AMA events.

"The 50cc feature was great with those kids going at it three-wide for several laps and the Sportsman race was just outstanding as they went four and five wide and diced back and forth passing for positions," he commented.

Among the youngest riders, Tyler Haas of Tremont won in 50cc seniors and Tyler Kidwell of North East MD, won in 65cc. In teenage classes the fastest winners were John Lewis V of Brandamore in 250A and Matthew Young of Pennsburg in the 125cc/Schoolboy class. Top senior riders included John Winsett of Bainbridge in 40+ and Gary Conklin of Harpursville NY on his #55 Honda in 750 Open.

The race was a makeup from the rained out Sept. 21 features sponsored by Action Motorsports and saw notably fierce competition because now only two points events remain on the AMA District 6 schedule. The bikes and quads return to Path Valley on Saturday evening, Oct. 19, for the final points race. Bike, quad and kart races at Path Valley offer free general admission and the track's final racing event is the Saturday Night Finale for karts and four-wheelers on Oct. 26.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111.
