Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit Kawasaki Heads East After a Successful West Coast Campaign!
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team continued its unbelievable season at the San Diego Supercross, which marked the end of the west-coast swing. Of the seven rounds run thus far, four of them have been won by Pro Circuit team riders, including three in the Western Region by Jake Weimer and one in the Eastern Region (which has only seen one round run so far).
San Diego was round six of the Lites West, after which the Lites West goes on a seven-week hiatus before returning to action in Seattle, Washington, on April 18th.
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Ryan Morais grabbed the main-event holeshot and swapped the lead back and forth a couple times with Ryan Dungey before settling into second, where he stayed for the entire main event, despite some late pressure from teammate Weimer.
"I was able to pull off that holeshot, and he got by me, and I was able to sneak back by him real quick," Morais said. "I kind of slid a little bit when I went under him and lost my momentum for the whoops, and he got back by, and I just put my head down and tried staying as close as I could as long as I could. I got a little tight, and I was able to loosen up and regroup and get going again, and I was able to hold onto second place."
The break is perhaps inopportune for Morais, who was getting faster every weekend on his way to four second-place finishes, a third place, and a fifth.
"Yeah, I feel like my pace is improving every weekend, and I'm working really hard during the week and putting in my time," Morais said. "Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki has been behind me 110 percent, and I wouldn't be up there if it wasn't for those guys, and for sure I felt like every weekend I'm improving and getting close to my goal of winning my first race."
His teammate Weimer came into the race with a narrow points lead, but a bad start, coupled by a good start by his series rival Dungey, made it tough on him in San Diego. Weimer actually put in the fastest laptime of the race.
"That's kind of a bummer, but I just straight up didn't get the start I needed," Weimer said. "I felt really good in the main, and I felt pretty good all day. I struggled a little bit in my qualifier -- I wasn't expecting the track to be that slick -- but I felt really, really good in the main and felt like I was riding really well, but just didn't have the start."
Still, with a third-place finish, Weimer sits only two points out of the lead with two rounds left to run in April.
"It's going to go down to the last race, for sure, and all I can do is my best and hopefully I'll come out on top," Weimer said.
"We couldn't be happier with the results the PC boys have put up so far", stated Terminal Velocity Processing's CEO, Jim Wilson. "The team has played an integral role in increasing our brand awareness to the Motocross community and Terminal Velocity is gaining momentum daily. I look forward to seeing what is in store on the East Coast and am confident we will see similar results we have seen out West."
Now, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team switches to the East for this weekend's race in Atlanta with riders Christophe Pourcel and Austin Stroupe.
