Privateers take advantage of test day in Atlanta.

AURORA, IL. (February 24, 2003) - Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division held its second privateer test day at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Thursday - two days prior to the THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross Series race.

"Our goal was to give one day of practice for the west coast privateer riders and one day for the east coast privateer riders at the beginning of their respective series," said Roy Janson, vice president of operations, Clear Channel Entertainment. "This is just one small facet to our on-going efforts to help the privateers."

More than 60 privateers took advantage of the opportunity to dial in their bikes before Saturday's qualifying rounds began.

"The extra practice sessions are awesome for us," said privateer Dave Castillo. "It's a more relaxed approach to riding the track because we can spend extra time dissecting the obstacles."

"Clear Channel has really stepped up their privateer program," said Ryan Clark, who is second in the Nissan 'Riding to a New Frontier' program. "In addition to the various bonus funds available to us, they are working with the stadiums to get us more time on the track."

Since 1997, Clear Channel's privateer bonus program has paid out more than $600,000 to privateers who made the main event. In addition, the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company pays a purse of $50,000 to be distributed to the top three finishing 250cc privateers $50,000 at the end of the season.
