Capper set to take on AMA Supermoto Series in the USA

Kingpin of South African Supermoto Brian Capper (North Riding, Gauteng) waves the sunny shores of South Africa goodbye this week, as he departs for the USA to compete in the first round of the AMA Supermoto Series in St Louis Missouri, as a HMC Red Bull KTM factory team rider.

Fresh off another superb victory in the premier S1 (450cc) class, during the second round of the Mr Price Supermoto National Championships which took place in Cape Town on Monday, the three times South African Supermoto Champion appears to be in excellent form and will leave South Africa at the top of his game, leading the championship.

After an illustrious career in motor- racing, which included stints in Trial biking, Motocross, Enduro and Off-road racing, Capper has gone on to dominate in Supermoto racing, taking it up full time during the development stages of the sport in South Africa, in 2004.

Winning 90% of the races, Capper signed with Austrian built manufacturer KTM in 2005, to ride full time in the 450cc and unlimited classes. Capper won both and was crowned South Africa's inaugural SuperMoto Series Champion.

Winning both the S1 and Open S2 classes in 2006, Capper became the official National Supermoto Champion when the Mr Price Supermoto Series was awarded National Championship status by Motorsport South Africa.

By far the most dominant and exciting athlete in South African Supermoto racing, Capper was presented with the opportunity to travel to the USA to compete in the 7th Round of the AMA SuperMoto Series in Wisconsin, in 2006. This was thanks to Supermoto Race organiser Gary Galway, of Supermoto Promotions, who organised a ride for Capper while attending the X Games. Capper impressed all during the AMA, including HMC KTM team owner Mitch Hansen, who offered him a full time ride with the HMC Red Bull KTM factory team in 2007.

"This deal is huge for me; I'm really excited about racing in the USA again. I told Mitch that I'm not coming over to play second fiddle to anyone else, I definitely want to win it," said Capper. "In a way I am sad to be leaving South Africa, but there are bigger and better things in store fore me overseas and I can just feel that it's going to be a good year."

Capper will be based in Wisconsin with team mates John Lewis and Kurt Niccoll and will stay and train at the Ranch where all the bikes will be prepared. The Ranch has its own motocross track on the premises and with two Supermoto tracks as well as two or three Super Cross tracks within 20 to 30 minutes from the Ranch, Capper should be more than prepared for all nine of the nationals he competes in.

The team will travel the whole of the U.S Series which includes nine nationals as well as the X- Games, visiting states from New York all the way through to California.

Capper and his wife Nicole will travel between South Africa and the USA two or three times in 2007, during which time Capper will continue to perform his shows as well as race in the Mr Price Supermoto National Championships in South Africa, during the weeks and months in between.

With all the resources of a factory team rider at his disposal, the talented South African is set to align himself with the world's best.

"I am so grateful to all my sponsors, my family and my supporters for affording me the opportunities that I have been given and I hope to do them all proud," said Capper.

The first AMA Supermoto event kicks of in St Louis Missouri on Saturday 19 May at the St. Louis' Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Missouri.
