59-year-old Ken Schrader on pole for ARCA race

A timely nap helped 59-year-old Ken Schrader win his 18th all-time ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards pole award Saturday.

Schrader, in just his second ARCA stock car start at historic Winchester Speedway, was fastest in both practice sessions and won the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell with an ARCA qualifying record of 15.826 seconds, or 113.737 mph. It was in between the two practice sessions that he took a short nap.

"I took that nap and was kind of re-energized," he said. "It took me awhile to get going in the second practice session, though. I think I forgot everything I learned from the first session.

"It's a fast track," Schrader added. "Anytime a track stays around for 100 years, it must be doing something right."

Schrader broke the old mark set by Ryan Blaney (15.837) in 2011.

Schrader will start alongside Atlanta, Ga.'s Brandon Jones in Sunday's Herr's Chase The Taste 200 presented by Federated Car Care. Jones, who qualified at 15.899 seconds, is making his ARCA Racing Series debut.

Anderson Bowen will start third, John Wes Townley fourth and Mason Mitchell fifth.

The Herr's Chase The Taste 200 will start at 2 p.m. Sunday and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

Jones is making his first trip to Winchester. He was one of the top three cars in the second practice session.

"I thought the track would get stickier later," he said. "It's a fast track."

ARCA championship point leader Grant Enfinger will start seventh in Sunday's race, the 10th of the 20-race 2014 season.

"I feel a lot better than I did a couple hours ago," Enfinger said. "We made some solid gains on the car all day. I feel like we'll be decent come race time."

Defending race winner Frank Kimmel will start 10th as he looks to rebound from a finish that was outside the top to in Elko.

Mitchell, second in points, is looking to extend his streak of 18 straight top 10 finishes.

Sunday's race is the 25th ARCA Racing Series race at Winchester, a historic track that is celebrating its 100th anniversary this weekend with numerous events and activities. One of those events will be the dedication of a historical marker from the Indiana Racing Memorial Association (IRMA). IRMA unveiled the historical marker Friday and will dedicate it before Sunday's Herr's Chase The Taste 200.
