Bell, making his only start this season in ARCA, restarted eighth with two of 100 laps remaining and used his fresher tires to power to the victory in Thursday night’s Scott 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Ty Majeski held the lead on the restart but was quickly passed by series points leader Austin Theriault in Turns 1 and 2. By Turns 3 and 3, Bell has powered around Theriault to take the lead with one laps to go.
Theriault finished second, Brandon Jones was third, Noah Gragson was fourth and Chad Finley completed the top-five.
“It was a win-win situation for us when the (final) yellow came out. I was getting real, real nervous there,” Bell said. “The laps kept ticking down and ticking down and I knew we were running out of time.
“My pit crew did a fantastic job. I was just really glad I was able to capitalize on those (newer) tires.”
The win is Bell’s third in six career ARCA starts.
Bell, 22, is also competing in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the track. He has four wins and leads the Truck series standings with one race remaining before the start of the 2017 playoffs.
“Anytime you can get laps at a race track, it helps a lot,” Bell said. “Today was big for me. I was able to practice this (car), practice the truck, race this car, so I got a lot of laps here.
“I don’t know if we had the fastest car but my (Venturini Motorsports) team just did an awesome job with the strategy.”
