Justin Lloyd to debut in ARCA this weekend at Berlin
MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- 17-year-old Justin Lloyd will make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut this weekend in the Wolverine Power Systems 200 at Berlin Raceway. Lloyd, a 10-time champion in the quarter midget ranks, will be making his first of three planned ARCA starts this season behind the wheel of the No. 15 Chevrolet with assistance from Venturini Motorsports.
"I'm really looking to the race this weekend. I want to gain as much experience as I can before Toledo. The goal is to learn as much as I can, keep the car clean, learn the other drivers. I'd really like a top-10 run but I'll just focus on myself and see where we're at," Lloyd said.
Lloyd's No. 15 machine will be supported by Lake Norman Counseling Service, Calero Investments, and RM Technology. Beyond Berlin, Lloyd is also eyeing the short track in Toledo, Ohio and the one-mile track in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Lloyd, a native of California, got his first taste of racing at the age of five behind the wheel of a quarter midget. He won the very first race he entered. A sign of things to come, he went on to earn 10 championships before moving on to legend cars three years ago. Last season, Lloyd won the track championship at Concord Motorsports Park in North Carolina.
In preparing for his big debut this weekend, Lloyd, his father, and crew chief Jeff McClure spent the better part of Monday testing the short track at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, N.C.
"It went really well. We had the same car there that we're racing this weekend. I was really smooth and we put in some good laps," Lloyd said.
Once Lloyd arrives at Berlin, Eddie Sharp Racing driver Justin Lofton, who sits second in the point standings and finished fourth at Berlin last season, has already reached out to the "new kid" by extending an offer to show him the preferred lane around the .4375-mile track.
"That would be great," Lloyd said. "Any help I can get would lessen my learning curve. We had a good car at the test and I'm excited about it."
The Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac from Berlin Raceway is set to begin on Saturday, July 25th at 8:30 P.M. Live timing and audio can be heard on ARCARacing.com.
