RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., (Oct. 20, 1999) A full, rapid recovery is expected for Precision Preparation Motorsports driver Anthony Lazzaro, although injuries he suffered last Saturday in an accident in the Winn-Dixie 300 ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series race at Talladega Superspeedway will probably take him out of action for the rest of this season.

Lazzaro suffered a compression fracture of the thoracic T3 vertebra in the multi-car accident near the end of the race that was won by veteran Bob Strait in the Midway Island Ford. Lazzaro drove a Ford owned by Stan Hover to gain superspeedway stock car experience prior to his NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division debut for PPI Motorsports in a McDonald's-sponsored ride at Daytona International Speedway next February in the season opening NAPA Auto Parts 300.

He was running in fourth position at the time of the accident.

Lazzaro was examined Tuesday in Indianapolis by Dr. Terry Trammell, a noted orthopedic surgeon who specializes in motorsports injuries. Dr. Trammell indicated it would take approximately six weeks for Lazzaro's injury to heal properly, which would take him into the month of December.

The NASCAR Busch Series will conclude its season with events this weekend at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, in which Lazzaro had been entered in a BACE Motorsports Chevrolet; then in events Oct. 30 at Memphis Motorsports Park; and Nov. 13 at Miami-Homestead Speedway.

Lazzaro will recuperate at his home this week in Acworth, Ga., before beginning a light regimen of physical therapy prescribed by Dr. Trammell to assist his recovery.

Lazzaro will return to testing his McDonald's car for PPI Motorsports after he has been fully cleared to do so by his medical team. He is scheduled for a follow-up visit with Dr. Trammell in three weeks for an evaluation of his progress.
