Daytona Determination For Clements Is Just The Beginning
SPARTANBURG, SC (February 6, 2007) -- After a busy off-season preparing cars, engines and knocking on many doors for any available testing, sponsorship or development opportunities, Jeremy Clements is simply ready to race. The Palmetto State native recently celebrated his 22nd birthday and the extra candle on his cake has fueled his determination to launch an assault on the ARCA RE/MAX Series starting with this weekend's "ARCA 200" at Daytona International Speedway.
"During the off-season there's so much going on in the shop and with sponsors and meeting different people who I hope can just give me a shot to prove myself that I always look forward to Daytona because I can get back to the best part of the job -- driving," stated Clements as his team was loading their transporter to make the trek to the famed 2.5-mi oval. "I love racing. It is in my blood and just who I am but I know how critical this year is for me to finally get something to come through so I can continue."
Clements has competed in limited events with the diverse ARCA RE/MAX Series tour since 2002 and has always been a contender to win with 5 top-5 finishes including a runner-up performance last season at Pocono in only 20 series' starts. The 22 year-old also overcame a serious hand injury that would have ended most racing careers in 2004 when a steel driveshaft pierced the cockpit of his dirt late model. After countless surgeries, hundreds of hours of grueling physical therapy and a contagiously optimistic attitude, Jeremy returned to competition just one week shy of the one-year benchmark of the disaster.
Not only did Jeremy defy all odds with his racing return but he swore to be better than he was before and has continually worked to prove he is destined for great things.
"I cannot thank my parents, family, crew and sponsors enough for helping me through those times. I want to win and be able to have an opportunity to compete full-time in the ARCA RE/MAX Series or other pavement divisions not really for myself but to do it for them and show that their sacrifice and dedication wasn't a waste," added Clements. "I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to participate in scouting programs and tests with various manufacturers and NASCAR teams but nothing has been finalized yet. We have met with various potential primary sponsors but it is the same thing. I know this year is critical to my future because we are a family-owned and funded team and it's time to shake things up."
Jeremy Clements hopes that Daytona sets the bar high for his 2007 season so his #3 team can catch an early momentum wave. This weekend's "ARCA 200" will be his third start at the Florida speedplant and the team is looking to improve both their event best 4th place qualifying effort and 13th place finish at Daytona International Speedway.
"We've had mixed luck at Daytona and it's always a tough event to make being the first race of the season and high car counts," noted Clements. "We can just give it all we've got and hope for no hiccups and a little bit of luck. For the #3 team, everyone back at the House of Power and all of our sponsors such as Harrison's Workwear, The Saxon Group and One Stop Convenience Stores, there's nothing more than I would like to do to thank them by parking this thing in Victory Lane. Wouldn't that be sweet?"
Sweet indeed but the jokester quickly added that he just wants to have an opportunity to make those who have helped him proud. Knowing the support and generosity within the team, I believe his recognition and acknowledgment is more than enough because they know that Daytona Victory Lane or not, Jeremy Clements is destined for great things.
