Sherman; Cleary Motorsports Psyched About Salem
Salem, Indiana - - If there's one track that Gary Sherman and his Cleary Motorsports team are looking to make a lasting impression it will be this Saturday's race from Salem Speedway in the Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic 200 by Advance Auto Parts.
Cleary Motorsports, a new team on the ARCA RE/MAX Series tour will look to make their fourth start of the '05 season in one of the most anticipated short track events on the schedule. The team made their debut with a brilliant fifth at Berlin, followed by a solid run at Gateway, only to reach back into the top-ten at Lake Erie Speedway.
The team attempted the last short track event at Toledo Speedway, but foul parts on the No. 76 Chevrolet destroyed the chances for a berth into the Hantz Group 200. Now, regrouped and refreshed the team is ready, ready to roar.
"I'm ready for Salem," said the rookie driver Gary Sherman.
"We've had some really good finishes this year and a little bit of disappointment. Salem is a track that could make you or break you; we're looking to be on the better end." Sherman, a native of Holt, Michigan knows the success to short track racing. "Stay out of the wrecks!" Short track racing is intense, exciting and even dangerous. You can be leading the race and the next thing you know, you're in the fence, its not only about being good it's also about being lucky, we hope to be both this weekend."
It's been a battle of trying to find sponsorship for the No. 76 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, but luckily the team has been able to obtain backing from Quality Auto, Northside Service, Tracktide Restaurant and Advantage Snowplowing for this weekend's brawl. "I'm really thankful to have all of our sponsors supporting us this weekend," Sherman added. "These are all local companies that believe in Cleary Motorsports and it's our job to not let them down."
Sherman, a former driver in the American Speed Association (ASA) has experience at Salem Speedway, but the results haven't been anything to boast about. "I've run good at Salem in ASA and the late models, but our finishes haven't been good. I've qualified and raced well, but if you don't finish the races, then that's all overlooked. We're looking to have a weekend much like Berlin, it's going to be a very stout field, but I think as a team we're prepared; even for the unexpected and looking forward to showing our strength on Saturday night."
The team will not participate in the season-finale at Talladega Superspeedway, but they are looking forward to a much bigger presence in the ARCA series next year. "We are looking at expanding our operation, said car owner Rob Cleary. "We are talking to sponsors, and trying to put the right key personnel in place. It's our hope and intent to compete for the full ARCA RE/MAX Series championship in 2006.
The Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic 200 by Advance Auto Parts is the 22nd of 23 events on the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The teams will endure another one-day show with practice, qualifying and racing all set for one day. Practice will being shortly after 1:00pm, with Pork pole qualifying set for 4:00pm with the race set to take center action shortly after 8:15pm EST.
