SEASON BEST FINISH FOR MARKS AT SPRINGFIELD; 6TH FASTEST AT CHICAGOLAND TEST
CONCORD, NC (8-22-07) For some drivers switching from a paved track to a dirt track could be a little tricky, but that wasn't the case for Justin Marks and his #65 Crocs Dodge. After running in the top 5 for the majority of the day, Marks took home a 4th place finish in Sunday's Allen Crowe 100 at Illinois Sate Fairgrounds.
"I've always been a fan of the dirt," Justin Marks said. "I knew going into the race that it was not going to be like a traditional dirt race. The cars are heavy and have a relatively small right rear tire. Sliding around was a lot of fun. It left a lot in the driver's hands which is the way racing should be. The Crocs Dodge was really hooked up which made it that much better."
Marks' only experience on a dirt track before competing in the Allen Crowe 100 came just one day prior when he buckled himself into an ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series (ALWTS) truck for a 30-lap shootout at Springfield, resulting in an 8th place finishing spot.
"The ALWTS race was a big help because it gave me the opportunity to see how the track surface was going to change and where the groove was going to be established. Not much transferred between the two vehicles from a technique standpoint, but learning to adapt to the changing track was a big help."
From the mile dirt track in Springfield, Marks and the entire RAB Racing crew moved onto the mile and a half paved track of Chicagoland Speedway for an ARCA RE/MAX Series Open Test. Despite rain for the first half of the day, Marks was able to get on the track and unofficially post the 6th fastest time of 31.21 sec at 172.8 mph.
"I am very pleased with how the test went. I'm really starting to understand those clues that let you know if you're going to be good when you come back for the race. How fast you can go cooled down and taped off for one lap is absolutely meaningless. It's your consistency on the long run, with hot tires and a hot track that really let you know what to expect. We have a fantastic car under those circumstances and I'm excited to bring the Construct Corps Dodge back to Chicago."
With two solid back to back finishes, RAB Racing heads to The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin this weekend with a positive attitude and the drive to put the organization in victory lane.
"It was really great to get a good finish for everyone at RAB Racing," Marks continued. "There isn't a single mark on the racecar which is nice after the year we've been having. We were fast at Nashville, fast at Springfield and now I feel like our season is coming back to us and we have some really successful weeks ahead. Hopefully the monkey is off our back."
