ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie Joey Coulter Earns Career First Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell; Prairie Meadows 200 at 8 p.m. Central

NEWTON IA (7-11-09)--ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie of the Year contender Joey Coulter, in the No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet, earned his career first Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell on Saturday evening at Iowa Speedway, circling the .875-mile short track in 23.45 seconds for a speed of 134.328 mph. He starts alongside current ARCA RE/MAX Series Point Leader Parker Kligerman (No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge) for Saturday night's Prairie Meadows 200, the tenth of 21 ARCA RE/MAX Series races on the 2009 schedule.

Coulter, who was second quickest during a practice session at Iowa Speedway on Friday afternoon, was the 15th of 37 cars to qualify on Saturday. Following his qualifying lap, he waited patiently with his team while his fellow ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors took their turns around the Newton, Iowa-based short track. The pole came just one week after Coulter posted his career best ARCA RE/MAX Series race finish of second at Mansfield Motorsports.

"I was pretty nervous throughout that entire qualifying session," said Coulter. "Ickler was fast in practice and he was the last car to go out. I knew that if anyone was going to beat our time it was going to be either Ickler or Lofton. I kept walking to the screen that was showing the times and checking if we were bumped off the pole or not. When Lofton didn't do it I just took a deep breath but I was still nervous because I had to wait for Ickler. I'm happy I got my first pole here because this is a great racetrack. This is my third time here but my first time racing at this track with the ARCA RE/MAX Series .The track has a lot of grip-you can run two and three wide here the entire time. Patience is always important at any racetrack but I think that if we can get a good lead early on and then conserve tires and fuel it will be beneficial to us."

Parker Kligerman, the 18-year-old recent high school graduate and current ARCA RE/MAX Series point leader, will start second in tonight's Prairie Meadows 200. Chris Buescher, Justin Lofton, Dakoda Armstrong, Brian Ickler, Johanna Long, Steve Arpin, James Buescher and Frank Kimmel made up the top-10 qualifiers.

Coulter joins Michael Annett (2007) and Steve Wallace (2006) as ARCA RE/MAX Series Pole Award Winners at Iowa Speedway. Pole Award qualifying was rained out in 2008 and the field was set by Car Owner Points.

The Prairie Meadows 200 rolls off at 8 p.m. Central. Check arcaracing.com for live Timing and Scoring, live audio and a live video feed of all on-track activities this weekend.
