KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY UNVEILS NEW FACILITY TRAFFIC PLAN
CESO, Inc., develops dedicated-lane traffic management plan
SPARTA, Ky. -- Kentucky Speedway fans driving their vehicles home from 2007 events will be encouraged to maintain their lane when exiting facility parking areas to comply with a new dedicated-lane traffic management plan developed by CESO, Inc.
Kentucky Speedway management partnered with CESO, Inc., to analyze event pedestrian and automobile traffic flow patterns in and around the venue.
CESO, Inc., developed specific recommendations for effectively distributing automobile traffic to roadways surrounding Kentucky Speedway and managing pedestrian traffic based on traffic projections for each of the eight event days of the upcoming Kentucky Speedway season.
"We wanted to be sure we were making full use of the recent improvements made to the highways and access roads that serve our facility," Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. "We sought partnership with CESO, Inc., to ensure we maintain our high customer service standards by enhancing our ingress and egress plans."
CESO, Inc., recommendations are:
* Increase the number of VIP Parking areas to accommodate an expected increase in VIP traffic. Expand the VIP Parking exit road leading to Jerry Carroll Blvd., from one to two lanes.
* Expand the shoulder of the eastern stretch of Speedway Blvd., that connects to Ky. Rte. 1039. Expansion will provide sufficient clearance and facility access for emergency vehicles while allowing automobile traffic traveling from Jerry Carroll Blvd. to Speedway Blvd., to flow through a four-lane cross section. This improvement will maximize the vehicle capacity of designated egress routes and efficiently move traffic. Shoulder expansion also will create four dedicated exit lanes for automobile traffic traveling from internal speedway parking areas to Jerry Carroll Blvd.
* Expand the intersection of Jerry Carroll Blvd., and Ky. Rte. 35 to promote a more efficient transition of automobile traffic to Ky. Rte. 35.
* Designate specific areas where pedestrian traffic will be able to safely cross VIP Parking exit lanes and staff the crossing areas with dedicated traffic control personnel. Both measures will maintain a desirable balance between the flow of pedestrian traffic moving from the facility to parking areas and automobile traffic utilizing VIP exit lanes.
* Establish specific pedestrian crossing areas to current Shuttle Bus stops on both Jerry Carroll Blvd., and Speedway Blvd. Staff crossing areas with dedicated traffic control personnel. This measure will maintain a desirable balance between the flow of pedestrian and automobile traffic.
New measures will be in place when Kentucky Speedway opens its 2007 season May 12 with the ARCA RE/MAX Series "Buckle-Up Kentucky 150." The five-weekend season will continue when the 66,089-seat venue co-promotes its first street stock event, the "Frank Kimmel Enduro Nationals," May 26, follows up with its high-profile NASCAR Busch Series "Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" weekend June 15-16, plays host to the ARCA RE/MAX Series "Channel 5 150" and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series "Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" July 13-14, before closing its campaign with the first IndyCar Series and Indy Pro Series twilight and night races in track history Aug. 11 when it showcases the "Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Coca-Cola and Edy's" and the "Kentucky Indy Pro 300."
The track will open its June weekend with "ClearChannel Cincinnati Fanfest" and provide family entertainment during the opening day of its August weekend with "Radio Disney AM 680 Fanfest." Both new events will feature free admission for children age 12 and younger, garage-area autograph sessions with top series drivers, free infield access for all visitors, music and interactive displays.
Race tickets are on sale now and can be reserved online at www.kentuckyspeedway.com and Tickets.com or by phone at 888-652-RACE (7223). Tickets also can be purchased in person at Meijer stores as well as Kentucky Speedway ticket offices in Ft.
