It's a New Ballgame at a Familiar Ballpark for Joey Miller

LAKEVILLE, MN (May 12, 2005) -- Joey Miller has been to Kentucky Speedway before. He raced there last season in both the ASA National Series and the NASCAR Southeast Series. But this trip to the 1.5-mile oval will be completely different this time around for the 20-year-old driver.

It will be his first ARCA race at the track as the driver of the #9 Hagans Racing Dodge. He'll also need to adjust to having a new crew chief in Mike Chaffee. But young Miller is well prepared. He enters the race just five points out of the ARCA points lead and has a history of adapting quickly to new surroundings. So he expects to be just fine even if it's a new ballgame at a familiar park.

"There is a ton of difference between what I've raced here before and now," said Miller. "The ASA car was scary there. The ARCA car was a lot different. You had to lift going into the corners. I got a hold of it pretty easily. It's definitely a different type of track in how you have to drive it in there so long and so far out and then turn it into the corner."

Miller bases his observations on a successful test that the Hagans team recently had at Kentucky.

"The Kentucky test went pretty good, I thought. It was a kind of new experience to have a crew chief who hasn't been around that kind of car consistently over the past few years. It was a learning experience that way, but I'm excited about how it went. I think we have a very decent car that is capable of running right up front."

And with plenty of Superspeedway experience and an in-house Dodge engine program, the Hagans team is a very good one for Miller to have behind him at Kentucky.

"We usually do pretty well on the mile-and-a-half tracks," said Miller. "I like them and our motor program there is pretty strong too. That's a big help."

Miller has put together top-ten finishes so far in each of the three ARCA events this season. He's looking for a new trophy for his display cabinet, but at the same time Miller also knows that winning might not be everything -- as shown by his second-place perch in the points.

"It always feels good when you are doing well, if you are up front and running well," said Miller. "I'm just looking at running good here. We want a strong finish. If we end up in the top three, I'll be happy. We want to win, but we need to look at the big picture. I think that we have a good chance to get out in front and stay out of trouble."

Earlier this week the Hagans Racing team was at Toledo Speedway (OH) to prepare for the May 22nd Hantz Group 200 at the facility. Miller pointed out that the test was very successful.

ARCA will roar into the Bluegrass state this weekend for the Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150 at the Kentucky Speedway this Saturday, May 14th.
