Strong Team Helps Joey Miller Finish Third in First Pocono Trip
20-Year-Old Gives Penske Racing A Run For Their Money

LAKEVILLE, MN (June 13, 2005) -- You could say that the teams of Hagans Racing and Penske Racing have a lot in common. Penske has young guns Ryan Newman and Travis Kvapil on their roster while Hagans has rising star Joey Miller. Penske is known for being one of the first teams in major league racing to approach racing in a truly professional way, while Hagans Racing has taken that same approach to ARCA with an in-house engine program, a state-of-the-art raceshop and first class personnel. Both teams also run Dodges.

So the outcome of this weekend's ARCA RE/MAX event at Pocono Raceway really wasn't a surprise taking those factors into account. Penske invaded the ARCA ranks with their NASCAR Nextel Cup driver, Kvapil, and won the event while the Hagans' entry finished third in Miller's first time ever at the tricky 2.5-mile track. Six-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel was sandwiched between the two in the second position.

"Anytime you can run with a team that has that type of technology and experience, it feels pretty good," said Miller. "In qualifying, we were right up there within one-tenth of a full-blown Cup team. Even if you can't beat them, to just get them to have to step it up a little bit to win is cool."

Another cool thing was the power that Miller had at Pocono.

"I've got to give our motor guys credit. Just having the horsepower
that we had was awesome. We were definitely good in that department."

One place where Miller got to use that Hagans' horsepower was down the 3,780 foot (three-quarter mile) straightaway at Pocono -- one of the longest stretches of straight asphalt in all of racing.

"That was definitely different because there's nothing like that at any other track. It's just so long, it's unbelievable."

Qualifying on the outside pole and finishing third in his first-ever trip to Pocono made the Pocono excursion a worthwhile one for Miller and the #9 team.

"The whole weekend was a great weekend," said Miller. "From qualifying to the race, we were right up there and we led some laps. We couldn't quite get it done in the race, but we'll take third and the points that come with it and go on to Michigan."

Recently, Miller has been busy testing with the Hagans and Country Joe Racing teams during the weekdays sandwiched between race events. This week, however, he's got a little bit of breathing room. Fresh in his rearview mirror is a successful test at Michigan earlier this month, where his #9 was the quickest in testing of more than 20 cars taking part in the open session.

"We have this weekend off from testing; we'll take it a little bit easy before going to Michigan," said Miller. "We have a good car for Michigan. We're getting it tuned up a little bit from the test and we should have a good run there. We should be right up front all day long. We'll go for the win and if we can't quite get that, we'll try and get a top-five run to keep the points going in our favor."

Miller enters the Michigan event second in the ARCA standings, 35 points behind Kimmel.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series will race at Michigan Speedway this Friday, June 17th. The race will start at 5:15pm and will be televised live on SPEED Channel.
