Double Header Weekend for Marks

A learning experience weekend for Justin Marks, driver of the #65 Constuct Corps Dodge, who pulled double duty Saturday at Salem Speedway in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series races. Marks, who finished third in the Advance Auto Parts 50, ran inside the top five in the ARCA Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic 200 before a hard hit with the turn one wall ended his day.

"The whole idea of running the truck race was to get the extra laps, and get some experience," Justin Marks said. "It was a lot of fun and I can use all the help that I can get right now. Running the extra laps for the truck race was helpful because it gave me some confidence going into the ARCA race."

Marks started Saturday's ARCA race 13th, but quickly moved into the top ten. He was able to run consistent lap times with the leaders when a brush with the turn four cross over gate cut the right rear tire causing him to lose control of the car and slam into the turn one wall.

"I hit the wall coming out of four and when I went to turn it into one, the car didn't turn, and just went straight up the track. I hate that the car got wrecked and I know that's not what we needed, but I can definitely walk away from Salem with some invaluable lessons. I'm proud that we learned a lot and I am glad that I got some short track experience before leading into next year."

"Aside from losing the race car, it was a really good day." Crew Chief Robby Benton said. "Justin was able to gain some valuable track experience here. He got 50 green flag laps of schooling in the truck race at a track that is really hard to pass on and really hard to race on. You have to learn how to race the race track and race the cars around you. He came away with a third place finish and I think it really did a lot for his confidence level, and I think that it also taught him a lot. When he started the ARCA race, I think he had a really good race car and he did a really good job with it all night. He showed patience, he drove the race car, he raced the race track and when he needed to make his moves, he set people up and made them and looked like a veteran short track racer out there."

"I think if he had the opportunity to finish the race, he would have had a solid top five finish. Never having run a short track race in this kind of car, and coming to the hardest short track we could possibly take him to, I'm pretty happy with the way the weekend went. I wish we would have had better results, both for his experience and his learning curve, but we are getting Justin some seat time so that we can go chase the championship next year."
