Michael Annett took his No. 28 Pilot Travel Centers/Northland Motor Oil Toyota Camry to Kansas Speedway to race in his seventh career ARCA RE/MAX Series race and his third ARCA start this year.

The rookie driver had never raced on the 1.5-mile Kansas track, though he had tested on the surface earlier in the year. Annett believed he knew the track rather well and was more than ready to get things underway Friday morning.

The lone practice session began early Friday morning, and Annett took his Toyota Camry to the top of the speed charts. After changing things right and left in the garage, crew chief Joe Lax made Annett's car the one to beat in practice. Annett ended practice with the third fastest car overall.

Drawing a mid-pack qualifying draw, Annett hit the track running strong when it came his turn to qualify. A lap of 31.157 seconds placed Annett fourth on the starting grid for Friday afternoon's race.

Annett showed his strength immediately after the green flag waved to start the race. He posted the fastest lap times of the field during the first five laps, which enabled him to take the second position by lap eight. Annett took the lead by lap 15.

He remained near the front throughout the first 40 laps of the 100-lap event. Annett told Lax the handling of his Camry was tight from the center and off the turns. The first caution flag of the race waved on lap 41, so Annett pitted for four tires, fuel and trackbar and air pressure adjustments. After a good stop, Annett appeared to be in a great position for the restart; however, Annett was caught speeding off pit road and had to restart at the rear of the field on lap 46.

It did not take Annett long to prove himself. By lap 50, Annett was back in the top-10. He remained calm despite cautions flying right and left. By lap 66, Annett was in the second position and fighting for the lead.

The third caution of the race began on lap 88. Annett was unable to hear his crew's command to remain on the track, so he came to pit road. The crew gave the car tires and fuel, and Annett restarted in the eighth position with only seven laps remaining in the race.

Annett drove hard during the final few laps and finished his seventh career ARCA RE/MAX Series race in the fourth position. It was his sixth career top-five finish.
