ROOKIE BRAD COLEMAN WINS PORK POLE AT KANSAS

KANSAS CITY KS (6-30-06)--Brad Coleman, in the No. 62 Federated Car Care-Brewco Motorsports Ford, earned his second career Pork Pole Award Friday afternoon, circling the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway in 32.166 seconds (167.879 mph), good enough to sit on the pole for Saturday's Kansas Lottery $200 Grand ARCA RE/MAX Series event.

"My crew chief Shawn Parker has really helped me a lot," said Coleman. "Getting another pole here today at Kansas is just awesome."

Steve Wallace, who had posted a blistering speed of 169.913 mph during the final practice session earlier in the day, will start on the outside front row for Saturday's ARCA RE/MAX Series event.

"In practice we changed a right front spring and I don't think we got the wedge right," said Wallace. "It was like two or three percent off. Hopefully it won't be so bad in racing as it was in qualifying."

Erin Crocker, who is running double duty this weekend by participating in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series race and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event, qualified third, with a time of 32.274 seconds (167.317 mph).

"It's an awesome opportunity that I have here at Evernham Motorsports," said Crocker. "It's great for me. I need more seat time and I need more experience so hopefully tomorrow will be good. We were pretty fast and I like mile-and-a-half tracks so I'm having fun."

St. Augustine, Florida's Scott Lagasse Jr., who is part of a driver development program for Dodge and Ganassi Racing, will start fourth on Friday after posting a time of 32.428 seconds (166.523 mph) in a Cunningham Motorsports No. 4 Dodge, while Frank Kimmel, in the No. 46 Pork the Other White Meat Ford, rounded out the top five.

"We ran a good lap, but the track has gotten pretty slick with the heat this afternoon," said Kimmel. "We were pretty free in the corners and I think that is what slowed us down too. I really wanted a top-three starting spot to keep my stats up here, but I know we will be good in the race and hopefully we can get back into victory lane here at Kansas."

Friday's qualifying session was lengthened several times to accommodate on-track incidents, the first of which occurred during Mike Harmon's Pork Pole qualifying run when the engine expired on his No. 38 Bert Oostlander Racing Chevrolet.

Richard Johns, who was hoping to make his career first ARCA RE/MAX Series start on Saturday, will have to wait until another weekend to make his debut as he scraped the wall in his No.39 AMERIQUEST-FreeCreditReport.com-Reliance Tool Ford. In addition, both Benny Chastain in the No. 93 Drew White Motorsports Chevrolet and Todd Hansen in the No. 53 Bill Hansen Chevrolet both spun their cars during their Pork Pole qualifying lap. Chastain will start 40th in Saturday's race, using a provisional, while Hansen will go home.

The Kansas Lottery $200 Grand rolls off on Saturday at 4:45 pm. The race will be broadcast on SPEED at 3:00 pm ET on Sunday.
