Mikey Kile Wins Menards Pole Award at Kansas
(KANSAS CITY, Kan. - September 30, 2010) - Mikey Kile (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota) drove the fastest lap in Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell this afternoon, and will start from the first position in tonight's Kansas Lottery 150 at Kansas Speedway. Kile's lap of 31.7 seconds (170.347 mph) was his only lap, and gave the 27-year-old from Westlake, La. his second career Menards Pole Award in 27 career ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards starts.
"It didn't really feel like it was that fast of a lap. I thought I was really loose in (Turns) 3 and 4 on the mock run," said Kile. "I'm really looking forward to the race. I'm really good in race trim."
That Kile was able to post a pole-worthy lap may have been a surprise to some in the garage after the driver was forced to qualify with his team's second motor for the day.
"I went to make a mock run in practice to see where we were, and I saw we had an oil leak, and water mixed in with the oil. We changed the motor, and that just shows the confidence I have in my guys at Venturini Motorsports. They're unbelievable and they work their butts off," Kile said.
Kile last started on the pole at Pocono Raceway in June, and he led 67 of 80 laps before finishing second to Craig Goess. Kile earned his first ARCA victory six days later at Michigan International Speedway in a role swap with Goess, who that week became a Menards Pole Award winner for the first time.
"This is probably the best the car's felt in race trim since Pocono and Michigan, and we were really good in the test session also. I think we were really good in race trim, but you may never know. The numbers, statistically, they look good, but we'll have to get into the race and wait and see. I'm just hoping for a repeat of Michigan and the dominance we had in Pocono," Kile said.
Steve Arpin, Kile's Venturini Motorsports teammate, qualified the No. 55 Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade Toyota on the outside of the front row with a lap of 31.713 seconds (170.277 mph).
Nine-time series champion Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/Menards Ford) charted third, just ahead of Ty Dillon (No. 41 Karl's Chevrolet), who led the day's only practice. Joey Coulter (No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel/Darrell Gwynn Foundation Chevrolet) will start fifth.
Justin Marks will start sixth, and Craig Goess - who is third in ARCA Racing Series points - will start seventh. Goess posted the best qualifying speed of any of the top three championship contenders; as such, none of the drivers earned bonus points for their qualifying efforts. Points leader Patrick Sheltra was 10th and current second-place driver Tom Hessert was 17th.
Dakoda Armstrong, the winner 12 days ago at Salem Speedway, will start eighth, and Chad Hackenbracht earned the first top-10 qualifying effort of his young career by posting the ninth-best lap.
"I am really excited about my first top-10 qualifying run in ARCA and proud of the guys on the team," said Hackenbracht, who drove the No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet to a lap of 31.969 seconds (168.914 mph).
The 100-lap, 150-mile Kansas Lottery 150 will air live on SPEED at 4 p.m. Central (5 p.m. Eastern), and ARCARacing.com will feature live audio and live timing and scoring coverage.
