Alex Yontz Set to Make ARCA RE/MAX Series Debut at Kentucky

20-Year-Old Will Run Richard Childress Racing Car at 1.5-Mile Track

WALNUT COVE, NC (May 8, 2007) -- Alex Yontz knows the world of Late Model Stock Cars. He knows what the cars drive like. He knows what the cars need to go fast. And he knows how to win when he's behind the wheel of one.

Now, Yontz is ready to step into a different, and much faster, world. Yontz will make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut on Saturday night, running in the Buckle Up Kentucky 150 at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway. Yontz will pilot a Richard Childress Racing #31 in Saturday's 100-lap event.

"I'm really excited about it, and I'm really looking forward to the weekend. It can't get here fast enough," said Yontz. "I really don't know how to explain it. It is one of those deals that just came about. (RCR) are supplying the cars and the motors. We are going to take the car to the track and Ed Berrier, my Crew Chief, is setting it up.

"This will hopefully be the first of a couple of ARCA races that we are going to do this year. It will be a hit-and-miss deal for sure. We chose this one to start at because we are off the whole month of May with UARA. We are not giving up on UARA and we are still going to chase that series the entire year. But when we can work in an ARCA race and we've got the opportunities, we are going to do it."

Yontz recently tested with the car he will drive at Kentucky and was the fastest of the 13 cars in attendance.

"I am pretty excited about the race after the good test session that we had there," added Yontz. "We ran a time at the end of the day which was fast enough for about sixth in qualifying there last year. I was just fortunate to have a piece like that to drive. We didn't mess with it much as the day went along. The car got better and better, and by the end of the day we were pretty fast. I hadn't felt anything like that before, though. That thing has some horsepower.

"After we got going, I got to where I was driving too deep. I was thinking the car was tight all day, but it was just the way I was driving the car. It just feels a lot different than a Late Model. I guess it's the speed. It was a pretty different feeling. I ran three or four laps and then had to come back in and think about it for a little bit. I'm really looking forward to the weekend now to get more laps and more track time and see how the race will play out and how it will be to race with all the other cars out there."

Yontz knows Late Models too. Last season, he competed for the UARA Championship, falling just a couple of points short of the title despite winning three events. He also picked up the biggest win of his career, winning the prestigious Bailey's 300 at Martinsville Speedway in October.

"I just want to go back and qualify in the top-five or top-10. We want to stay up there in the lead pack and stay with the front cars all day. If I can come out of there with a top-10, maybe even a top-five, then I think we'll have a good day.

"As the race goes on, I'll be learning things. The main thing I'm worried about is the pit stops. I don't want to make any stupid mistakes like stalling the car or anything like that while making a pit stop. I know that the little mistakes are what will kill us. Especially knowing we have a good car. I'm just worried about making little mistakes on my part, because the car will get us there to the finish line."
