McGilton Rebounds In Kentucky; Moves To Fifth In Points
"Brewco Motorsports Finishes Eighth Under The Kentucky Lights"
SPARTA, Kentucky (May 14, 2007) - - After two disappointing finishes, Phillip McGilton and Brewco Motorsports rebounded back into shape with a eighth place performance in Saturday's Buckle-Up Kentucky 150.
McGilton entered the seventh ARCA RE/MAX Series event of the season also hoping to regain some points after two sour finishes dipped McGilton to eighth in the championship standings heading into the second night race of the season.
In practice, McGilton in his No. 47 Midwest Equipment Ford Fusion posted the 11th quickest lap. The team opted to make some changes to their machine hoping it would pay off for ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying.
The changes paid off. In qualifying, McGilton soared to post the third fastest time overall giving him his third top-top three qualifying effort in three weeks. The run also awarded the Marion, Illinois native five additional driver points for his efforts officially moving him into seventh in the championship standings ahead of Justin Marks.
"I'm happy with our qualifying results as of late," said McGilton. "Shawn (Parker, crew chief) has really been able to make a difference in the car from practice to qualifying and we've been fast. It's a nice feeling. I'm not sure how the car will react in the race, but I think we'll be competitive."
At the start of the event, McGilton held his position firm and missed a spinning Ken Butler III on the frontstretch on lap two to move himself into the leader's sights.

During the first long-green flag run, McGilton backed up dealing with an tight handling Midwest Equipment machine, but crew chief Parker offered his rookie driver reassurance they would make an adjustment during the first round of pit stops.
That time came approaching lap 35 during another caution, where McGilton brought his machine to the aid of his crew where his group bolted on four new Hoosier rubbers, made a track bar adjustment and added Sunoco Racing fuel before sending the rookie back into competition.
McGilton continued to fight for positions however, cautions worked against the rookie during the last quarter of the race. McGilton collected his third top-10 finish of the year and his best finish since Salem Speedway last month.
The team's effort also garnished McGilton as the highest finishing rookie.
"We're happy with our performance," said McGilton following the event. "We worked with the car all night to get it better; I just wish the race was a little longer."
"My Brewco Motorsports team did a great job all weekend. We came out of the box solid and qualified really well and we had a pretty good race. We're back on track and that's a good thing. We also moved up in the point standings and that was one of our goals this weekend. Our race is coming, I guarantee you."
With his performance Saturday night, McGilton jumped three spots in the championship standings to fifth just sixty points from fourth place competitor Bobby Gerhart.
