"Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150" And "Bluegrass 100" Grids Are Set

SPARTA, KY. -- Chad Blount outdueled 54 drivers with a lap of 172.883 mph (31.235 seconds) to win the pole for today's "The Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150" at Kentucky Speedway.

Blount takes his first career pole award at the Speedway and will make his third straight top-three start in an ARCA Re/Max Series event at the track. The 25-year-old Walkerton, Ind., native took an ARCA Re/Max Series win and a second-place finish in July and May of 2001 at the Speedway.

"It was easy to drive. If you have a car that good, anyone can do it," Blount said. "The car was real good today. We just feel like we left a little bit out on the table, but it was good enough for the pole. We have a good seat for the race so we just need to keep out of trouble."

Stuart Kirby (No. 75 Bob Schacht Motorsports-SUBcrews Ford), who led the May 2 series practice session at the speedway, will join Blount on the front row after turning his best qualifying effort at 171.587 mph (31.471 seconds).

Ken Weaver ( No. 10 Fast Track Driving School Pontiac) - 171.146 mph (31.562 seconds), Hendrick Motorsports development driver Kyle Krisiloff (No. 7 Ditech.com Chevrolet) - 169.231 mph (31.909 seconds), Chad McCumbee (No. 11 Seawatch- Fast Track Chevrolet) - 169.009 mph (31.951 seconds), and Kevin Hamlin (No. 99 Ken Schrader Racing Dodge) - 168.966 mph (31.959 seconds) will round out the first the rows for "The Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150"

Three-time Kentucky Speedway race winner and current series points leader Frank Kimmel will start 17th after struggling through his qualifying run.

"It was terrible. I think maybe the No. 69 car wrecked in Turn 2 and something was put out on the racetrack," Kimmel said. "I went out the first time and I did everything but wreck. On the second lap, I kind of tiptoed through there (Turn 2) and kind of got really sideways. I don't know, it's just the luck of the draw. We got out there at a bad time. The car has really been good all weekend, so we'll just have to see what we've got."

Cincinnatian Danny Jackson was the top qualifier for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Series "Bluegrass 100" after he turned his quickest lap on the paved Kentucky Speedway quarter-mile track at 62.314 mph (14.443 seconds).

Jackson opted to take The ARCA Lincoln Welders Series Ultimate Truck Challenge and will attempt to earn an extra $500 by starting at the rear of the 18-truck field.

"If there's anybody who's got a lot of laps around this place it's me," Jackson said. "I've been running Legends Series cars down here for three years. I've been in 12 races already this year and I've won all 12. I've started in the front and started in the back. I'll just take my time, I've got 100 laps. I've won from 20th in 25 lappers, so we'll just see how it goes."

"The Bluegrass 100" rolls off the starting grid at 1:30 p.m., and "The Harley-Davidson of Cincinnati 150" will immediately follow.
