SPARTA, KY. - Kentucky Speedway and Cincinnati NBC affiliate WLWT-TV Channel 5 announce that the Hearst-Argyle station has secured local television rights to the Saturday, May 11, 2002 ARCA RE/MAX Series race and will become the title sponsor of the event to be known as the "Channel 5-155".

This will be the inaugural race for the 2002 season at Kentucky Speedway, and Channel 5 will broadcast the race live in prime time in the Cincinnati market with the green flag waving at 8 p.m. (EST).

"We are very excited this worked out. The sponsorship package we negotiated with Channel 5 took some time as it involved network television time, event broadcast rights and many sponsorship components available at the speedway. Channel 5 will be a terrific partner as they will help us promote not only the May event, but events throughout the year," said Mark F. Cassis, executive vice president and general manager of Kentucky Speedway.

In addition to broadcasting the ARCA race live, Channel 5 has agreed to produce an hour-long preview to air adjacent to the event. The three-year sponsorship agreement calls for Channel 5 to be recognized as a corporate partner of Kentucky Speedway and includes grandstand tickets, a luxury suite, hospitality tent, billboards and concourse signage at the state-of-the-art motorsports complex.

"The future is extremely bright for motorsports across the Tri-State and all of us here at Channel 5 are very happy to be partners with the Kentucky Speedway," said Rabun Matthews, Channel 5 president and general manager. "There are a lot of race fans in our area we're proud to be the first TV station to broadcast a race live to fans throughout the Tri-State."

The "Channel 5-155" will have a full 36-car field and is positioned at the beginning of the 2002 ARCA/REMAX season. Indiana native Frank Kimmel, in the No. 46 Ford, is the defending champion of the event. He also won to the July event at Kentucky Speedway and became the 2001 ARCA RE/MAX Series Points Champion.

This is the first known local television presentation for the ARCA RE/MAX Series, which has crowned champions since 1953. The race will also be aired nationally via the Speedvision Network, however, will be seen locally only on Channel 5 per the partnership agreement.
