HAMLIN SOLID AGAIN, FINISHES 8TH AT MICHIGAN

(Brooklyn, MI) - In only his second career ARCA Re/Max Series start, Kevin Hamlin earned his second top ten finish by crossing the stripe in the Hantz Group 200 in the eighth position. The Ken Schrader Racing team started the weekend off right by being seventh quick in the opening practice, and later Hamlin put the car outside the second row in qualifying.

"We had a great car all weekend," Hamlin said. "The car was really fast in practice and qualifying, but a weak set of tires on our first stop put us behind in the race."

The number 99 Dodge was running third when the first rounds of pit stops came.

"We were a bit tight off the corner so we made a slight chassis adjustment and put on a set of scuffed tires. We found out in a hurry that these new tires weren't like the set we took off the car," Hamlin said.

After the race restarted, Hamlin?s car became very loose. A few laps into the run, Hamlin was exiting turn four when the back end of the car broke loose sending Hamlin sideways. His recovery put on a 180 mph smoke show for the crowd.

"I pretty much thought we were done. I have no idea how I didn't spin the thing out, but we saved it and were able to march on,? Hamlin said.

When the next caution flew Hamlin brought his Dodge down pit road for a quick adjustment. After the stop, he was twenty-third. On the restart, Hamlin made some great moves in traffic, even going three wide on the backstretch to make up ground. A lap later, Hamlin was tenth.

But even with the adjustment, Hamlin continued to struggle with the handling on his car, and brought it in at the race?s halfway point for four tires and fuel. The stop put him off sequence with the leaders, but with fuel mileage gave him a shot at finishing the race without stopping again. The track position gained on the stop even allowed Hamlin to lead late in the race.

"The bad set of tires really put us behind with the leaders. With only a 100 lap race, you don't have a lot of time to play catch up. We were on a different pit schedule, and had enough fuel to go the distance when the rest of the field didn't, but the cautions didn't fall our way. We led a couple of laps towards the end, but our tires were 20 laps older then everyone else's and we did all we could do to hold onto eighth."

Kevin and the KSR team will be back on track August 13th when the ARCA Re/Max Series heads to Nashville Superspeedway. Stay tuned to KevinHamlin.com for all the latest.
