Lofton rallies to fourth in Mansfield

In somewhat of a repeat of Michigan, Justin Lofton had the fastest car, led the most laps early, and clearly had the car to beat before troubles out of his control hindered his run. But unlike Michigan, Lofton and the No. 6 Eddie Sharp Racing team rallied late and notched a solid top-five run, finishing fourth on Saturday at Mansfield Motorsports Park in the Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA RE/MAX 200.

"We had such a great car tonight. We led a lot of laps and the car was handling great," Lofton said after his run.

After having the fastest car in practice and claiming the pole, Lofton dominated early into the 100-mile race. Unfortunately, his troubles came following a restart, leaving the field jumbled while fighting for position. In the melee, Lofton got turned, causing damage to his competitive racecar and dropping him in the rundown.

"I had to check up a bit and I got hit from behind; that set us back and I had to really drive hard to get back up to the front," he explained.

And drive hard he did. At his lowest, Lofton was scored in 21st, at the tailend of the lead lap. As the laps clicked down however, so did the positions and it wasn't long before Lofton and the No. 6 Eddie Sharp Racing team found themselves back in contention.

With less than 20 laps remaining the in the race, Lofton's No. 6 Lofton Cattle Toyota clicked off some of the fastest laps of the race while he was running in the ninth position.

Lofton continued his climb through the field before a caution flag waved just three laps from the finish, extending the race to 202 laps in a green-white-checkered flag dash. Lofton pounced on the restart, picking up another position to finish fourth.

"Once I got to about ninth, the car came alive again and we finished fourth. I think if I had another five or so laps I could have taken a shot at Parker. Congrats to those guys -- they're having a good season, but we're not done winning races either. This is a really solid team. I had a blast tonight!"

Lofton, crew chief Mark Rette and the entire ESR No. 6 crew will have a few weeks off before the ARCA RE/MAX Series next hits the track at Iowa Speedway on July 11th for the Prairie Meadows 200.
