Rookie's Krisiloff, Kinser Share Front Row at MIS

BROOKLYN MI (8-18-05) -- ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Kyle Krisiloff, in the ditech.com Chevrolet, won the Pork Pole Award Thursday afternoon at Michigan Int'l Speedway for Friday's Hantz Group 200.

The Indianapolis, Indiana second-generation driver qualified with a speed of 185.620 mph around the 2-mile Michigan oval. It was Krisiloff's second consecutive pole at Michigan having qualified first here back in June.

"I got on the radio on the backstretch, and I said I didn't think we got it (the pole)," said Krisiloff. "The late draw helped. If we would have gone out first or second, we probably would have qualified third or fourth.

"This is the place to be (stock car racing)," said Krisiloff. "If you want opportunity, this is where you need to be. They race every week, and I need seat-time."

Krisiloff, on a Hendrick Motorsports driver development plan, will also attempt the NASCAR Busch Series race here this weekend.

World of Outlaw sprint car driver Kraig Kinser, in his career-first stock car start, qualified second at 185.347 mph in the CENTRIX Financial-US Army-Checkers/Rally's Chevrolet.

"I've pretty much have only run dirt so far, so this is completely new to me," said Kinser, who won the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa last weekend. "I can finally wear my brand new shoes and not worry about them getting dirty out there.

"Pavement is a little less forgiving. If you make a mistake here, you're in the wall. Getting used to the feel is the hardest part right now. We're just taking it one lap at a time. I mean you're always going out there to win, but at this point, a top-five is just as good as a win.

"My dad (Steve Kinser/19-time WoO sprint car champion) has been in close contact with me. My phone's been ringing off the hook."

Forty-nine year old Dallas, Texas rookie Ken Weaver, in his own 1-800-4-A-Phone Pontiac, qualified third at 184.535 mph.

Leading RE/MAX Series Rookie of the Year contender Joey Miller was fourth fastest in the Country Joe Homes-Eagle Creek Aviation Dodge.

Steve Wallace, son of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series veteran/champion Rusty Wallace, qualified fifth in the #27 Penske Racing Kodak Dodge.

Friday's Hantz Group 200 at Michigan Int'l Speedway is LIVE on SPEED Channel at 5 pm eastern, and re-airs later that same night at 9.
