Krisiloff Earns Pork Pole Award at MIS
BROOKLYN MI (6-16-05) -- Kyle Krisiloff posted speeds of 187.598 mph at Michigan International Speedway Thursday afternoon, earning his career-first ARCA RE/MAX Series Pork Pole Award.
"We finally have a Hendrick motor so everything just came together," said Krisiloff after practice. "We have a fast car."
Rookie of the year contender Ken Weaver, in his own 1-800-4-A-Phone Pontiac, starts on the outside front row for Friday's Hantz Group 200. His quick time of 187.524 mph was just hundredths of a second slower than Krisiloff's fast time.
"The cars really good," said Weaver. "I can't believe how competitive this series is. This is the hardest thing I've ever done, and I played three sports in college."
Defending and six time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel placed his Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford into a third starting position by driving around the 2.0-mile oval at 185.333 mph.
"The car feels good," said Kimmel after Pork Pole qualifying. "We qualified late in the day and the sun came out, so that wasn't to our advantage."
Kevin Hamlin starts fourth in Friday's Hantz Group 200 after running a fast speed of 185.052 mph in Kenny Schrader's Federated Auto Parts Dodge. Danny O'Quinn, from Coeburn, Virginia, rounded out the top five with a speed of 184.957 mph.
2002 ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie of the year Chad Blount qualified 6th after posting speeds of 184.810 mph.
"I really thought we were going to be faster than what we were," said Blount after qualifying. "The #67 Foretravel Motorhomes Chevrolet felt really good, I was good coming into the corners and I pretty much had it wide open. The wind picked up quite a bit there, maybe that had something to do with it."
Erin Crocker, who is making her second career ARCA RE/MAX Series start this weekend in an Evernham Motorsports Dodge, qualified her Auto Value/Bumper To Bumper no. 98 into a seventh place starting position with speeds of 184.781 mph.
Mike Guerity of Rochester Hills, Michigan, qualified 15th after posting speeds of 181.837 mph in his Hantz Group Dodge.
"We knew it wasn't going to qualify well but we should have a top ten car come race day," said Guerity. "We'll make changes during final practice Friday morning and we should be just fine."
Tim Steele, in the HS Die/VISI CAD Cam Ford, qualified 16th in his return to ARCA RE/MAX Series competition, posting speeds of 181.603 mph.
"The car was not a car that would qualify well but we should run well tomorrow," said Steele. "We don't plan on making any changes during final practice tomorrow."
The ARCA RE/MAX Series will practice one final time at 9:30 am Friday morning. The Hantz Group 200 starts at 5:15 pm Friday. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED at 5 and re-aired at 9.
