STEVE ARPIN'S DIVERSE ROAD TO SUCCESS

CORNELIUS, N.C. (June 9, 2010) -- Steve Arpin can't remember a time when he wasn't obsessed with race cars. Perhaps it came from watching his father race dirt modifieds at local short tracks around his home in Fort Frances, Canada. Or maybe the fixation developed when he started racing go-karts at 10. Whatever it was, Arpin was bit hard.

"When I was about eight-years-old, I found out that there was a go-kart track that had just opened about 45 minutes away from our house," said Arpin, driver of the No. 55 Mike's Hard Lemonade Chevrolet. "From the moment I got my first kart, I knew I wanted to race anything and everything I could get my hands on."

While he may have started in go-karts, Arpin's career quickly led him to snowmobile oval racing where he captured consecutive Eagle River World Championships. From there, he tried his talents at dirt modifieds and captured the Emo (Ontario, Canada) Speedway track championship in his first year.

"Growing up, I raced pretty much everything I could get myself into," Arpin remarked. "I believe every time you can race something different, you learn something new. It can be just common racing sense, driving technique, mental control, or anything. It's just added experience and knowledge to help you make the most of any situation."

It may be that added experience and knowledge that contributed to attracting the attention of Dale Earnhardt, Jr., someone Arpin admired as a dedicated racer.

"My dad was always a huge Dale Earnhardt fan, and naturally, so was I," commented Arpin. "As I got older, I really started to take a liking to Dale Jr. as well. I always loved the way they were so real in everything they did. They were real hardcore racers."

Arpin has run four races this season in the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet and is expected to compete in several more NASCAR Nationwide Series events for the Mooresville, N.C. based team. Until then, he is focusing his efforts on this weekend's ARCA Racing Series presented by Re/Max and Menards Racing for Wildlife 200 at the Michigan International Speedway.

"We had a strong test here a few weeks ago and are racing the same car that we won with at Texas," said the Venturini Motorsports driver. "This is the style of racing where we shine. You can race two, three and four-wide at MIS and if we have the car just right, we can go where the other guys aren't in order to get to the front."
