Michael McDowell Earns SIM Factory Pole Award at Nashville

LEBANON TN (8-10-07) - Michael McDowell, in the No. 2 Z Line Design-Make a Wish-Beck Dodge, earned his sixth career SIM Factory Pole Award at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday afternoon and in the process inched within five points of eight time and defending champion Frank Kimmel's lead in the ARCA RE/MAX Series National Championship Point Standings. He starts alongside Jeremy Clements in Saturday's Toyota 150, scheduled to roll off LIVE on SPEED at 2:30 p.m. Central.

"We had a good racecar when we came here last time," said McDowell. "I think we were running third and cut a tire with 18 laps remaining and it hurt us in points. Believe it or not earning the pole awards and running in the top-five have kept us in contention for this championship. I think we've gained 180-plus points just by earning pole awards and leading laps."

The ARCA RE/MAX Series awards 15 championship points to the SIM Factory Pole Award winner at every event; the second fastest qualifier gets 10 championship points and the third fastest qualifier earns 5 points. In addition, the series awards 5 championship points for leading a lap and 5 additional points to the driver that leads the most laps during an event. With 14 of 23 events completed this season, McDowell leads the series in SIM Factory Pole Awards with six and also leads the series in the lap leader category with 432 laps led.

Jeremy Clements, in his family-owned No. 3 Saxon Group-1 Stop Convenience Stores Chevrolet, sits on the outside front row with a 30.262 second lap around the 1.33-mile concrete oval.

"We wanted a top five start and we accomplished that," said Clements. "I think we will have a good car for the race and I think there might be a few wrecks. We just want to stay out of the way. Anytime you qualify well it brings momentum to the race and I just want to touch Michael [McDowell] so that maybe I can catch some of that hotness he's been carrying around. He's been pretty good lately."

Michael Annett qualified third in the No. 32 TMC Trucking Dodge. Annett, who made his series debut at Iowa Speedway in June, is driving for Country Joe Racing, the same team that fielded cars for 2005 Rookie of the Year Joey Miller (Nashville 2004 race winner) and 2006 Rookie of the Year Blake Bjorklund.

"I can't say enough about the guys at Country Joe Racing," said Annett. "We run the full ASA series in the Late Models and we just wanted to fill a couple of empty weekends so that's why I am here. Any seat time I can get is going to be helpful."

Frank Kimmel, in the No. 46 Town & Country-Fort Dodge Animal Health-Pork Ford, qualified fourth, followed by Erin Crocker in the No. 98 Evernham Motorsports Dodge.
