This weekend's Toyota ARCA 150 will represent the 15th running of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Nashville Superspeedway and the 14th race of the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season.
A Look Back at Pocono: John Wes Townley, driver of the No. 09 Zaxby's/SPS/BB&T/Saxon Group Ford overcame a mid-pack qualifying effort and the "Big One" to bring home a ninth-place finish in the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway.
The SunTrust Rookie of the year contender started the 200-mile, rain-delayed event in the 14th starting position and ran consistently in the top-15 for most of the day. At lap 48, Townley brought the No. 09 machine down pit road for the final stop of the day for tires and fuel. Solid pit work and a few late-race cautions helped the Zaxby's Racing team capitalize on track position and ultimately bring home his second consecutive top-10 finish.
After 13: After 13 of the 21 scheduled events in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Townley has one top-five, five top-10's and 10 top-15 finishes. The eighteen-year-old has finished inside the top-15, ten out of 13 races, has an average starting position of 13.54, an average finsih of 13.15 and has completed 96.79% of all laps attempted (2022 out of 2089).
Points Check: Townley's 9th place finish at the 2.5-mile triangle propelled him to sixth in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship point standings with 2635 points, just 190 points out of fifth. Robby Benton, owner of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford also has 2635 points. RAB Racing at Nashville: With six previous starts on the 1.33-mile track, RAB Racing has one top-10 finish; Damon Lusk, 2006. An average starting spot of 11.50, an average finish of 18.17 and has led one lap, Damon Lusk, 2006.
Rookie Race: John Wes Townley remains fifth in the 2008 SunTrust Rookie of the years standings with 272 points. His solid effort in the past few weeks has decreased the gap between himself and fourth place, Tom Hessert III to only four points.
Testing One, Two, Three Testing: John Wes Townley and the No. 09 RAB Racing team participated in the open ARCA test at Nashville Superspeedway on Tuesday, July 22nd. The Zaxby's/SPS/BB&T/Saxon Group Ford was eighth quickest with a lap time of 30.250 seconds and a speed of 158.281mph. Nashville Chassis: Keith Hinkein, crew chief of the No. 09 machine, has chosen chassis No. 018 for the 15th running of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Nashville Superspeedway. This is a previous Jamie McMurray chassis from the Roush-Fenway Racing stables and was previously run in Charlotte at the All-Star Challenge. Other than testing in July at Nashville, this is the first appearance of this chassis for RAB Racing.
Double Duty for Townley in the Volunteer State: In addition to his duties henhind the wheel of the No. 09 RAB Racing Ford, Townley will pilot Roush-Fenway's No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150 in the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, August 9th. This will be Townley's fourth start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Roush-Fenway Racing.
He previously raced at Mansfield where he finshed 27th, Milwaukee where he finsihed 18th and Kentucky where he finished 21st.
What the team has to say:
John Wes Townley, Driver of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford Fusion: "I am very excited about running at Nashville this weekend. We had a successful test back in July and I've had several good runs in my late model at the Music City Motorplex across town. Hopefully, some of that good karma will carry over to the speedway and I can bring home a guitar"
Keith Hinkein, Crew Chief of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford Fusion: "John Wes Townley raced at Nasvhille but took part in the open test back in July. We learned a lot from the test, and I feel that he is progressing more and more each time he gets on the track. I know that he will be a solid contender this weekend."
