McFarland, Sears Auto Center Chevy Ready For South Boston USAR Hooters Pro Cup North Battle
Southern Division Points Leader Looking To Score Victory On Tight .357-Mile 'SoBo' Oval

Mooresville, NC (August 5, 2008) -- Mark McFarland would like nothing better than to celebrate South Boston Speedway's 51st-anniversary with a victory for his Pete Knight Racing team.

"I've done really well at South Boston in the past," said McFarland, driver of the No. 81s Sears Auto Center/Knight's Racing Chevy. "I've won quite a few late model stock car races there. I've run there a good bit and have good experience there. There's a lot of history at that track. It would be great to win there this weekend."

Opened on August 10, 1957, the .357-mile South Boston oval has played host to countless events over the past 50 years. The USAR Hooters Pro Cup debuted at the track in 1997 and has contested 15 races there since then. Surprisingly, Saturday's Miller Lite 250 will be the first time McFarland -- who has 47 career USAR starts to his credit - has competed in a USAR event at the track.

"It's very tough to stay out of trouble at South Boston," said McFarland. "The back straight is really narrow and it's easy to get involved in wrecks there. You really have to be on top of your game, your spotter has to be good, and you have to have a little luck. You have to have everything working for you to win there."

McFarland is coming off a less than satisfying 12th-place finish in the most recent USAR event -- a Southern Division battle at Hickory Speedway last weekend. According to the Winchester, VA driver, this weekend's South Boston race will be an opportunity to right his [81%20n%20right%20on%20track%201320.jpg] PRK ship before heading to Bristol Motor Speedway and the final USAR regular season event on August 20. McFarland leads the Southern Division standings by 44 points over rival Michael Ritch.

"We're going up there to learn some things," said McFarland of the South Boston event. "We're going to take the same car we ran at Hickory, so hopefully we'll figure out what was wrong with the car there. We'll be prepared and we're hoping to get that car right for the championship series races."

McFarland and his No. 81s Sears Auto Center/Knight's Racing Chevy will take the green flag in the Miller Lite 250 at South Boston (VA) Speedway and a USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division clash this Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
