Sarah Fisher too fast for ARCA Midgeteers For Immediate Release, By Don Radebaugh

Ovid, Michigan - At 18 years young, Sarah Fisher continues to show the ARCA Midget drivers how to get the job done. The second generation Ashville, Ohio, rookie, in only her sixth attempt, won her fourth ARCA Auto Value Midget Series main event Saturday night at Owosso Speedway in dominating fashion. Fisher, in her father’s #67 Mead Carbonless Paper Hawk, raced by AJ Davis on the 11th circuit of the 30 lap feature, extended her advantage to five lengths and kept it right through the final stripe. David held on for second ahead of Gary Harrell, defending ARCA Midget champion Gene Lee Gibson and all-time ARCA Midget winner Jim Hettinger to complete the top five respectively. Fisher set the tone immediately with quick time in qualifying and a victory in the first heat. However, her outstanding qualifying run handicapped her with an eighth place starting position in the main event after the inversion, but she quickly answered that with an assertive charge to the front soon after the green flag fell. ARCA rookie of the year contender Jason Fuller led at the onset after starting from the pole and looked like a candidate for the win until overheating problems began slowing his charge. As his engine continued to lose power, Fuller continually backed up before retiring from the event two laps short of the finish. Davis took advantage of Fuller’s troubles and raced around the former leader to lead the sixth lap and opened up a sizable lead with Harrell, Gibson and Fisher in tow. But before ten laps could be counted, Fisher hustled into second and immediately erased Davis’s advantage. The Indianapolis, Indiana driver raced as hard as he could to keep the eventual winner behind him, but when Fisher showed up inches away bent on going to victory lane, it was only a matter of time before the newest ARCA Midget standout took control. Brandon Hartsell finished sixth with Phil Rutledge seventh and two-time ARCA Midget champion Rick Harrell eighth. Veteran Jerry Nemire, who won the second heat, was quickly working his way to the front before ignition troubles stopped his run early-on relegating the 1997 ARCA Auto Value Midget Series champion to 17th in the final running order.
