OVERVIEW

It seems as though Marc Mitchell and the Ergon Chevrolet team can't catch any breaks these days. On a day that Chad McCumbee became a first time winner in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Mitchell was involved in an altercation, not of his making, that ended his day early. As a result of his accident, Mitchell finished the Pocono 200 in the 40th position.

Mitchell blew a motor in yesterday's practice session and the crew had to work double time to swap out the power plants. He was due to qualify first in yesterday's time trials, but had to forgo that spot to give the team time to change motors. Giving up his qualifying spot meant that although he wound up with the 26th fastest lap, he would have to start today's race from the rear of the field.

When the race started Mitchell easily passed the cars directly in front of him. He was closing in on the top-20 by lap 9, despite having a car that needed some adjusting. However, as the field raced into the high-speed Turn 1 corner, the car in front of Mitchell began to have a tire loosing air. He forced Mitchell into the outside wall hard enough to end his day.

"I have been racing long enough that I know these kind of bad luck streaks can happen," sounded a dejected Mitchell. "We had some good fortune at the beginning of the year and I guess it is our turn to take some lumps. The No. 47 car had a tire going down getting into 1 and that is one of the fastest entries you will find in our series. We are pushing 200 mph getting down in that corner. He did everything he could to keep his car off the wall and I was an innocent bystander."

"All we can do is keep working as hard as we can and good things will happen. I just hate it for my guys and my sponsor. We won't give up, though. That is a fact."

The next race for the Ergon Racing team will be the AT&T 250 event for the NASCAR Busch Series at The Milwaukee Mile on June 23.
