Nur Ali Accomplishes His Goals at The Rock

Fort Worth, Texas (April 20, 2009) - Asian-American race car driver Nur Ali had one goal heading into the Carolina 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Rockingham Speedway - to finish. After 200 laps of competition, the 34-year-old Fort Worth, Texas resident accomplished what he set out to do. He finished 21st.

Starting from the 28th spot, Ali's race was nearly over before it began. As the field headed to the green flag, the pack suddenly slowed. With nowhere to go, Ali moved to the left and clipped the left corner of the car in front. Luckily, his No. 14 A to Z Wholesale Dodge Charger prepared by Derrike Cope Inc., suffered only minor fender damage.

"When those cars checked up, I thought 'Oh no'," said Ali. "We got away with one, that's for sure."

An early race caution allowed Ali's crew, led by veteran crew chief Rick Markel, to repair the damage. With a full tank of fuel and new tires, Ali returned to the action.

"That was officially my first pit stop in a stock car," added Ali. "I've made many in open wheel cars but this was a lot different."

With more than 180 laps remaining, Ali settled in. He focused on running consistent lap times and racing the race track. He did just that and took his first checkered flag in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, marking his career best series finish.

"The goal was to finish the race and we did that," said Ali. "I'm on a steep learning curve with my transition from open wheel to stock cars. The only way to accelerate my learning is to maximize seat time. As far as the future, we continue to seek marketing partners who understand the value of a diverse driver like myself. We hope to make an announcement soon."
