With a disappointing qualifying run of 22nd under their belts at Salem Speedway, the GFS Marketplace crew went to work and dialed the #21 in for the race. It became apparent that the adjustments the Bowsher team made for the race were the right ones, once the green flag came down Bowsher wheeled the GFS Marketplace Ford through traffic to the lead pack, avoiding several multi-car incidents on his way to the front.
However, Bowsher had no easy task in front of him, while battling with the #59 of Mark Gibson, both contending for the 4th place spot, the two cars got together and Bowsher wound up in the wall. With what seemed to be merely cosmetic damage Todd brought his GFS Marketplace Ford to pit road for the crew to pull sheet metal away from the tires to prevent a flat, but while on pit road the crew discovered radiator damage and they were forced behind the wall for the remainder of the event and credited with a 21st place finish.
Following the race a disappointed Bowsher said, "I know the results won't show how good we were here tonight, and the coverage won't show that we were running 4th, but we had a good car and made our way to the front. He added, " It's just such a let down, knowing we could have been right up there at the end. We're all really happy for Jason (Jarrett), he did a great job, we could have been right there giving him a challenge but that wasn't to be; There was a lot of crazy stuff going on out there, we managed to miss most of it; it's the last short track of the year and that's what short track racing hands you sometimes, it's tough to swallow; we gotta look ahead to Talladega now."
The Jack Bowsher & Associates Team will take their GFS Marketplace #21 to Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday October 2 for the ARCA ReMax Series final race of 2004.
