CLEMENTS HOPES TO CARRY MUSIC CITY TUNE TO GATEWAY
SPARTANBURG, SC (August 29, 2007) - How sweet is the sound of success? For Jeremy Clements, it's too soon to forget the amazing sounds of applause from victory lane. After live audiences watched victory slip from the hands of the talented 22 year-old when his family-owned No. 3 Saxon Group/One-Stop Convenience Stores/Harrison's Workwear Chevy at Pocono Raceway the week before, Clements was on the radar as a threat to win at the famed Nashville Superspeedway. That threat proved to be real as the Palmetto State native notched his first career ARCA RE/MAX Series win and earned the coveted Sam Bass painted Gibson guitar trophy.
"We waited so long for that first win that I am still humbled by it all," the 22 year-old Spartanburg resident commented. "My first reaction was just 'thank you God!' because as a team and family we've been through a lot. Many near misses, laps led, countless hours and sacrifices to make these cars go but the main thing is how we all stayed positive and strong during my recovery after my hand was spared when the initial prognosis wasn't so good. This was just redemption. I have the most amazing crew, family, sponsors and friends including my doctors that are now just as much a part of my support group as anyone. I was so happy to get his win for all of them for never losing faith in me."
While the journey to Clements' first win is now over, the team turned their focus towards the new goal of repeating the performance and continuing to strive for improvement.
"Going in to Gateway, we could have potentially came in with two back-to-back wins under our belt so have to keep working as hard as ever to learn from our mistakes and give our best possible performance," Clements added. "Gateway is a very tough track to drive because of the unique configuration. You kind of have to pick a setup that will leave a little to be desired at some point on the track because the turns are all different and you just have to hope you have a car that you can work with and to stay out of others' misfortunes. The crew has been putting in long hours preparing for this race so we're going to give it our best effort to get in the show and then worry about getting out front."
Clements has momentum on his side entering this weekend's "Gateway ARCA 150" with a pair of thirds under his belt in the last month. His only other appearance at the Illinois venue in the shadows of the famed St. Louis Arch was in 2006 when he started 24th and rebounded with a top-5 finish. The Clements' owned No. 3 Chevy Monte Carlo will roll off for SIM Factory Pole Qualifying at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31st, 2007. The green flag for the 120-lap event is scheduled to drop at 8 p.m. and the cameras of SPEED will broadcast live coverage of the race in a two-hour telecast.
