In six short years chasing the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series, Tim Steele did what no other driver has been able to do in a lifetime; win a million dollars solely in ARCA competition. The three time ARCA champion needed only six starts in 1998 to become the first driver in ARCA history to hit the million dollar mark with a career total of $1,019,037 surpassing Bobby Bowsher's previous high mark of $952,535. "It's an honor, another feather in my cap that's for sure," said Steele. "ARCA's done a lot for me and I hope I've done a lot for them. And I'm not saying that I'm done adding to that total but right now, and while I've been recuperating, we're going to try something different. It's no surprise that we've always wanted to head in the NASCAR direction, so we're going to give it another shot. Except this time we'll try the Trucks and see how we fare. We've been pretty strong everywhere else and I have every reason to believe, given the quality of this operation, that we'll excel there too. Anyway, I'd like to thank ARCA. My learning experience there has been invaluable. It taught me how to race the speedways." It must have taught him well because Steele also leads the way in that category with 20 superspeedway victories, more than twice as many as Jeff Purvis, Jimmy Horton and the late Grant Adcox who are all tied for second with eight superspeedway wins. Additionally, Steele is the all-time ARCA superspeedway pole winner with 12 and the all-time ARCA superspeedway lap leader having led 1989 laps in 36 races. In fact, in 93 career starts, the driver of the familiar #16 HS Die-Softech Ford has led an amazing 70 events. The Coopersville, Michigan hot shoe is also tied for third with Les Snow on the all-time ARCA win list with 34 triumphs behind six-time ARCA champion Iggy Katona who has 79 and Jack Bowsher in second with 48.
