Anupab Sarmoon (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team) was second and in third place was Galang Hendra Pratama (Yamaha Racing Indonesia). In fourth and fifth places were Muklada Sarapuech and Reynaldo Chrisantho Ratukore respectively.
Starting second on the grid, Koyama shot into the lead in the very first lap, after beating pole-sitter Pratama. The two lead riders quickly began to pull away from the rest of the pack.
With two laps gone, Koyama gradually began to increase the gap and Pratama in the fifth round of the Asian Road Racing Championship at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai.
Behind the two were Sarmoon, Sarapuech and Rheza Danica Ahrens, but there was not much movement in the field of riders.
Things continued to remain the way they were. But a few laps later, Sarmoon moved up to the second place as Pratama fell back to third, with Ahrens fourth and Sarapuech in fifth spot. Koyama was still in the lead.
It was getting pretty tight at the head of the field as Saramoon was beginning to challenge Koyama for the race lead. Pratama was also looking to take back the position he lost. This was with four laps gone.
In fact, Sarmoon was ahead for a little while with seven laps to go, but Koyama took back the lead.
Sarmoon was just 0.3 seconds behind, but Pratama was third and 0.5 behind the second-placed rider.
With four laps left to go, Koyama began to pull away but still with Sarmoon hot on his tail. The gap between the top two had narrowed down a bit but Koyama held on to a good win.
