Newey, son of renowned Formula 1 designer Adrian, will join Stephane Richelmi and Thomas Laurent in one of the team’s two Oreca 05 LMP2 cars for the four-round series, kicking off with the 4 Hours of Zhuhai in China this weekend.

It will mark the first foray into sportscars for the open-wheeler regular, who spent this season competing in European Formula 3 for the Van Amersfoort Racing squad.

“Jackie Chan DC Racing x JOTA Sport is excited to be running Harrison Newey in the Asian Le Mans Series,” said JOTA Sport director Sam Hignett.

“We have a proud history of helping single-seater drivers make the transition into sportscar racing and after his successful season in F3, we have no doubt that Harrison will soon became a very strong sportscar driver.”

The other Jackie Chan DC Racing LMP2 entry will be raced by team co-owner David Cheng and Ho-Pin Tung, while American endurance specialists Patrick Byrne and Guy Cosmo will pilot the squad’s LMP3 car.

“We’re excited to be back in Asia and competing for a fourth Asian Le Mans Series title in both the LMP2 and LMP3 categories,” added Cheng.

“There is certainly some unfinished business for the team having missed out on the title last year through an incident in the final round.

“We’re looking forward to coming out strong and winning back the titles and that begins this weekend in Zhuhai.

"We are delighted to be working with JOTA Sport for our Asian campaign and look forward to an exciting and competitive championship.”

The Asian Le Mans Series season kicks off at Zhuhai this weekend, before rounds at Fuji (December), Buriram (January), and Sepang (February).

Also set to be in action in Zhuhai is Supercars driver Chaz Mostert, who has been called up by AAI Motorsports to race its BMW M6 GT3 car.

The Prodrive Racing Australia star has already been confirmed as part of AAI’s line-up for the GT World Cup in Macau next month.
