Ryan ready for the 'Roar by the Shore'
Currently sitting third in the championship as the season approaches the half-way point, Ryan Dalziel is all set for this weekend's Grand Prix of Cleveland, Round 6 of the 12-race Toyota Atlantic Championship. Hosted on the 2.106-mile Burke Lakefront Airport temporary road course, Saturday's race kicks off a day of excitement with the Champ Car World Series racing later in the event now known by locals as the 'Roar by the Shore'.
Ryan heads to Ohio buoyed by his second place finish in Portland just over a week ago. The Orlando-based Scot turned round a difficult weekend for the Sierra Sierra Enterprises team on the west coast coming from a fifth placed finish in the first race of the double-header event to take his first podium finish since his victory at Long Beach in April, piloting the #28 ProWorks Swift to second in Round 5 behind race winner and current championship leader Jon Fogarty.
The race in Cleveland heralds a busy July for the Toyota Atlantic field with a total of three races scheduled over four weekends. Following this weekend's proceedings the field crosses the border to Canada in preparation for Round 7 in Toronto (9th-11th) before heading back west to Vancouver for Round 8 (23rd-25th).
Last year's race on the lakefront netted Ryan a third place finish, one of his season-high nine podium finishes in 2003. The 22-year-old is eager to maintain his title-charge in what's proving to be a close-fought battle for this year's overall honors. Just three points off second place in the championship, Ryan hopes to close the gap at the top to Fogarty and echo his second-half of the year consistency from last season.
"I'm looking forward to racing at Cleveland," Dalziel remarked. "We should have a strong car for the race now that we've got a good read on the rules that were introduced prior to Portland. We showed there we could fight back and what started off as a difficult weekend ended with our best finish since Round 1 at Long Beach. It was great to be back on the podium and I wouldn't say no to other one this weekend."
Qualifying for the Grand Prix of Cleveland, Round 6 of the Toyota Atlantic Championship starts on Thursday (1st July) with the grid being decided following the second session on Friday. The race is scheduled to start on Saturday at 2:30pm Eastern Time. Full details are available on www.toyotaatlantic.com
