Dalziel and Sierra Sierra found innocent of Road America shock irregularities

Since arriving in Colorado earlier this week both Ryan Dalziel and Sierra Sierra Enterprises have had to put their 2004 Toyota Atlantic Championship title aspirations to one side to combat an allegation that they failed to comply with series-mandated specifications on their shock absorbers at last weekend's race at Road America, Elkhart Lake (6-8 August).

Ryan dominated Round 9 at the legendary Wisconsin circuit. Starting from pole the 22-year-old Scot claimed a flag-to-flag victory in the #28 ProWorks entry. The results were duly declared and the team celebrated their fourth win of the season and the third in four starts for Dalziel.

During a post-race technical inspection officials declared that the shocks on the #28 ProWorks car were found to be in violation of rule 9.2.7a. Following a delay of four days by the series organizers a press release was issued Thursday 12th August, announcing the team had been penalized, Dalziel receiving a five point penalty and the team a $15,000 fine.

Prior to the release being issued Thursday afternoon Sierra Sierra Enterprises had duly appealed the decision, a fact missing from the series statement. The team's appeal has subsequently been heard in Denver and upheld. As a result the team and driver penalties have been rescinded with immediate effect.

The implementation of the penalties could have had a serious impact on the outcome of what's proving to be a thrilling title fight between Dalziel and Jon Fogarty, the duo separated by just eight points (241-233) heading into Sunday's race in Denver.

Commenting on the off-track events Ryan remarked:

"An independent three judge panel formed by the Champ Car World Series cleared myself and Sierra Sierra of any wrong doing. We are delighted with the result and can now continue our chase for the 2004 Toyota Atlantic Championship."
